Wow, I can not believe this. Grown men even. Look I like his stuff and I have real work example of how it can be used to educate. I showed that standing liberty over strike to my brother. He was like wow that is in really good condition and then I showed him my AU example of a common date one. When I showed him the date of 1915 and said what the US mint was doing in gold this year he paused and then said so like your 1963 Kennedy right? I said yes and he thought it cool and walked away knowing that STL quarters started in 1916. If one doesn't like them, do not buy them but do not get short with those that spend their own money on them. You have your things you like and others have theirs. I don't make fun of nor berate people who collect Susan B Anthony's....
I'm sorry, Cascade, but you do "act" just like us, and handle your own brew of negativity just fine. Not only that, but you're more than happy to jump right in from the start with the poo, and if you don't see it, it's time to take a look in the mirror. I certainly understand and respect what you intended this thread to be, and I'm sorry it's gotten off track, but you spew "vile" in other threads, especially when it's something you feel strongly about, and I've seen you "hating" on other (legit and not) products many times, so I can only conclude that you feel it okay for you dump on what others enjoy, but "pathetic" when others dump on what you do. Also, please do notice the "vile" in this thread all had to do with one thing, and that's how you treat and speak to people who see things differently than you. The quoted posts above only go to prove the other gentlemen's points. You brought this on, and perhaps it should've been kept from this thread, but please, don't play the victim; not this time. Feel free to see this as an attack if you want, but the truth is that it's not meant to be one. After all, I'm as guilty as anyone here, but at least I admit it. Think about it...
I am happy to jump in and be reactive to the negativity and dish it out in kind. However I'm done. This endless loop of crass nonsense is just shy of unbearable. Thanks for ruining yet another Carr thread guys. I hope you feel good about your holier-than-thou attitudes. I guess it really does only take 1 or 2 apples to spoil a bunch. Bravo.
The fantasy-date over-strikes are altered coins made for novelty purposes. The Chinese items are often made with intent to deceive. Numerous Chinese counterfeits were produced years before I minted my first piece. In the 1960s large quantities of the highest-quality counterfeits of US gold coins were coming out of the Middle East. This is nothing new to the hobby.
A couple years ago a complaint against me was filed with the ANA by Roger W Burdette ("RWB"). I was forwarded the complaint and was given 20 days to file a rebuttal with the ANA. He alleged that I violated ANA bylaws when making fantasy-date over-strike coins. Typically, after both sides have filed their paperwork, the ANA board calls in the two parties and they state their cases before the ANA board. The ANA board then rules to expel the member or dismiss the complaint. However, in this case, after my rebuttal was filed, and ANA board summarily dismissed the complaint in its entirety. No appearances before the board were called for. I am still an ANA member in good standing. One of these days I may post that complaint, my rebuttal, and the written ANA decision on my web site.
The "Modern Minting" Summer Seminar class with instructor James Wiles attended my Moonlight Mint on a field trip. A good time was had by all. Students were able to see the entire minting process up close: concept designs and sketching; 3D sculpting; die engraving; die hardening and prep; planchet fabrication; coin press setup; and operation (striking) using a modern Denver Mint surplus coin press. Each year I prepare a couple dies so the students can strike their own Open House token souvenir on their own pocket change or other coins/tokens/medals. This year was a special piece. The obverse die is the 2016 Clark Gruber "half eagle". The reverse die is actually a US Mint "X" cancelled 1996 Olympic $5 gold reverse die, one of only 33 such dies released by the US Mint. Struck in a reeded-edge collar on a Liberty Head "V" nickel: Broad-struck on a 38mm Bronze Denver Mint medal (my personal favorite of the pieces struck during the field trip):
Now that is cool. Special indeed. I was wondering why you created a canceled die lol. But how is the X raised on the die though? I thought X cancels are recessed chop marks. Do you have pics of pieces made in years past?
Now I understand why you give Roger such a hard time with everything he has to say over on NGC. Get ready. Several more complaints are going to the ANA.
If only there was no Daniel Carr then Nike, Apple, Coach, car companies, Rolex, Michael Jordan ect wouldnt have to worry about the Chinese counterfeiting and stealing their products. Oh wait.......
Like basically every post you have ever made? All you do is tell people how to bad it is their fault in every single thread except when it comes to Carr then you go off the deep end with nonsense.
As always with the stretching of fact to suit your little man needs. Aww... did the truth hurt you, little guy? I'm sorry... Coming from the likes of someone who finds it necessary to put words into the mouths of others, not once or twice but repeatedly, I'll take it as a compliment.
The "X" is cut into the die. So on my open-house strikes the "X" is raised. If it looks the other way around, it is just a trick of the lighting. Past Open House tokens are listed here (I haven't listed the 2016s yet): http://www.moonlightmint.com/dc-coin_event_tokens_list.htm
You might be surprised to read what is in the RWB complaint, my rebuttal, and the ANA ruling. It would explain a lot. I don't need RWB's or the ANA's permission to post it. So I might. But I asked RWB anyway on the other forum for his permission to post his complaint. He refused to even acknowledge my request. PS: I only call out RWB posts occasionally, when he is factually wrong, for the purpose of propagating correct information.
As always crying playing the victim card. Don't bother responding I was just pointing out your hypocrisy and like always you turn into a victim.
The only way to address this is to draw a political analogy, so I won't. Any reasonably intelligent reader will get it anyway.
As I was teaching at the Summer Seminar, I wasn't able to make it to Dan's shop for the open house but James Wiles took a couple of pieces I designed to be overstruck. I now have Badger Mint designed, Shire Post Mint struck, Moonlight mint overstruck commemoratives. They are Game of Thrones golden dragons of Joffrey Baratheon and Daemon Blackfyre. Thanks Dan for what you do for the hobby and I will get that electrotype to you soon. Joe
Will anacs slab these dan? With the bowing and right side broadstruck protrusion on my ike I'm thinking it won't fit in a holder.
