I got this today in pocket change and was stunned when I noticed it. In pretty good condition considering it was in circulation, makes me think it was put away for some time before being spent. Im going to say VF to AU what do you all think? 1950d1.jpg 1950d2.jpg

As a kid collector, I must have looked at a jillion Jeffersons, in a fruitless search for a 50-D.:woot:

I've never gotten one from circulation either. Excellent score!

What's it worth? (To lazy to look I up) and for that matter, what is the condition?

Congrats, nothing is quite as exciting as finding a key date in pocket change.

I am in no way a coin grader :watching:.. but I do notice that your Nickel is slight Misaligned. Thinner Rim to the right and thicker to the left.
See the slight Double False rim next to IN GOD ;)

Collar clash only pertains to reeded coins such as Dimes, Quarters and Halves

I would call it F-VF. For those of you who didn't find any in circulation, I would guess you either looked in the wrong place or at the wrong time or both. At one time, probably the summer of 1959, I was finding them at the rate of about 2 a day and even ran an ad in Coin World offering 39-Ds for 35c and 50-Ds for 50c apiece. Of course, I was looking through large numbers of coins at the time, not just my pocket change. I was looking through coins from banks in Shreveport, La.

One other comment: Finding one today is pretty amazing.

I just consulted my old Photograde and will change my F-VF to VF. Too much wear on the triangle on Monticello to be XF, IMO. It's a decent circulated coin and about the grade I was finding all those years ago.

The 50 D was the last nickel I needed to complete my Jefferson nickels. In the 60's this coin was around $35.
$350 in today's dollars. If you find one hens teeth they were.

I'd go with XF on this one.......many struck up really crappy. I looked for years for a circulated example (in my youth) and finally gave up. I paid $24 for one (UNC) back in the sixties and I again, paid $24 (UNC) two years ago.

    Most marvelous find OP...........:)

As others, this is one I never pulled from circulation while roll hunting in the early seventies. Excellent find! Probably more rare in this state of circulation than mint state.
