This is not a noteworthy coin although it does have some of that "circ-cam" look to it. No, it's notable because it's an R-6 (13-30 known) die remarriage and I got it for a good price, about twice what a common coin in this grade would go for. Now, among the Capped Bust Half Dime community there is some debate as to whether or not the die remarriage traditional definitions for Reverse G are correct. I don't think we have settled this issue yet, so I have attributed this coin using the traditional criteria. If it was judged using the criteria proposed by well-known half dime collector and expert Richard Meaney, this coin would be the LM-1.2 and only an R-4. On a bit of a cranky sidenote: I wish NGC would use clear prongs like PCGS or at least smaller ones for these little coins. Have a Happy Independence Day!
This isn't anything "spectacular", but, for me it filled a void, so it followed me home. I didn't have a Braided Hair Half Cent for my type collection. I found this one in decent enough condition for me, and at a price I was willing to pay, so it checked all the boxes. An 1855, Slant 55 Half Cent. It's a little dark, but good details.
This appeared at my LCS. I did some asset reallocation to get it. 1873 Pattern Trade Dollar J-1293, PR-61, R-4.
These aren't valuable enough for me to plan a big vacation, but, since this is a hobby for me, and I'm not trying to get rich, just have fun, they were welcomed home! I got 7 rolls of half dollars from my local bank. I found one each, in 3 different rolls. They are beat up a little, but they are still S mint Proofs. First I found the 2002 S, in the 2nd roll I searched. Second, I found the 1776-1976 S in the 5th roll. And, third, I found the 1972 S in the 7th roll I searched.
Haven't been buying much lately but nabbed this 1959 proof set recently. Filled a hole from 1957-1963 and 1992-2022 (silver). Hope to grab '55 & '56 then it gets interesting...
I'm not up on everything in the coin world, and learn something new just about every day, but isn't this a "mint" set instead of a proof set?
Like I said, I don't know everything, and I learn something new, just about every day. Thanks for the "learning experience", lol. I really do appreciate it! Blessings, Kenneth
I like watching Rick on his TV shows about the coins. One of his shows was about the quality of the coins that are packed in those kind that you have. It seems that they have a tendency to break down and allow air into the coins. Personally, I don't go that far back, but a 74, I remember seeing them around. Your coin set looks very nice. Are you going to take the coins out? If you do, let us know what condition they are. Thanks for showing your set.
Great coins. I especially like the guitar. I had an electric guitar that I bought while my father was stationed in Germany (1966) It was a European brand, but it was all I could afford. It was a Framus electric. I bought an acoustic guitar while I was a missionary in Uruguay 1968. I crossed the border to Brazil and bought a hand made guitar. It cost about $50 then. I quite playing so I gave it to my grandaughter. She is quite good. She almost broke my neck when I gave it to her. I had it restrung and a new case. I also gave her all my songbooks.
I don't usually seek Jefferson Nickels, but the I loved the toning on this proof. Also picked up this beautiful 2 oz silver chunky Seated Liberty tribute from Intaglio Mint. I know it's not a U.S. coin but it's so very well done!
@Jerms, I think that's about the nicest Jefferson nickel I've ever seen! Don't blame you for picking that up!
