Since we're talkin' Dan right now I thought I'd lighten thing up and share this. The modern minting class took a field trip to his mint and apparently he let the students create some unique over-strikes. Someone from that class that I was talking to showed me 2 ikes that he over-struck and he generously offered one to me. Maybe @dcarr can chime in and give a little backstory to these and the class' experience. They were raving about the great time they had, what they learned and what a great guy dan is. Sounded like they all had a blast!
Ignorant of the difference between dans work and counterfits. Again, it wasn't an ad hominem but in relation to the direct definition of the word. Maybe it was a poor choice however. I apologize for using it
I'll accept your apology for the slur, but I still reserve the right to consider some, but not all, of DC's work in a negative fashion. Chris
I'm ignorant about many things but Dan's work is not one of them. He does some really pretty work. I was one of his first fans when he first bought his press. Those were great times. I'm still a fan of part of his work. He crossed the line when he started using others art and making almost exact copies of US coins. Finding a way around the laws does not make it right. It's going to harm this great hobby. It's already started and it will get much worse over the years. China is already gearing up to take advantage of the situation. I know this as a fact. They see a dollar and they chase it. We already lost the battle with China and now we helped them get around the laws. There is nothing good about this.
Yeah, that's what pisses me off about the haters. They're entitled to their opinions but here's a thread about something not controversial in the least and they have to chime in and crap all over it. He did a great service to YN's, the ANA and numismatics in general by donating time out of his busy day to teach eager minds young and old about the minting process and let them get hands on with a real US mint press and people still feel the need to spread their vile. How pathetic. The only silver lining is that they drive people to check out www.dc-coin.com with their rhetoric. I bet there is a direct correlation to threads like this popping up and sales spikes
I'd lose friends around here quicker than the Grabner can strike a planchet if I do that. Don't think I can handle all the negativity. I like most of the haters otherwise but when it comes to this and their repeted disrespectful vile it gets to me. They don't like it, great, good for them, but the way they go about crapping on every thread is childish and rude to say the least especially to the OP's be it me, a newbie or anyone. This thread isn't even about his controversial overstrikes, it's about his love of numismatics and willingness to donate his time and resources and give back to the community. Even if I thought like them I would never act as they do. I like you guys in general but when it comes to this I take issue.
Heck Cascade, this debate has been going on for years. It's like the (American) Civil War......passions rage on either side.
Yeah, I know. It's just the way they go about it that gets to me. But like politics I can compartmentalize and not let it effect my general view of any of them elsewhere.
Opinions are like keesters........we've all got one. The rule of fact is to not let that opinion cloud your perception of other opinions. Everyone has a point of view and a so called 'stance'. A healthy respect for one anothers opinion takes the high road and you, my friend, have done it...........
Ignorant, haters, childish, rude, disrespectful, pathetic. Did I miss any words that you used towards those with a different opinion? With that said, you have the right to state your opinion as well. You just need to clean up the words you use. That's where the high road is.
