Actually been awhile since I added an empress coin of some sort.

The latest addition is an Antioch Denarius of Julia Maesa from a small lot I bought. They are not super rare but a bit scarce.

This issue lacks the "diademed" on head, which makes this even scarcer it seems.

Only thing I don't like is the horrible weight, 1.97g. Curtis assured me it's fine though & the edges are a bit porous.

Nice coin, very well centered, and I like its simplistic design.

Regretfully, @Mat I do not have an Empress Maesa. However, I eventually see myself pursuing the Empresses once I complete some other subset collections that I am having fun with. I think at one time you were discussing my capturing this Lady.

How about a family reunion? Here is her sister, Julia Domna, which I finally received today.

Now, the pictures above are with my cell phone, and they do not capture the golden hues around the figures and legend, which are quite visible in the hand. So for that effect, I will use seller's photo. I don't know why cell phone cameras are so lousy capturing certain types of toning.

There are quite a few variations on Maesa from the East. Here are three more.

How do you separate a coin under Severus Alexander from one under Elagabalus?

One of my references must have mentioned that because I have it on the coin info. Now I'm just as curious as you are because I purchased the coin some 15-20 years ago and I can't remember the circumstances of the attribution.
