Also, Doug is right. European firms are a lot worse at answering emails! Best course of action is to try calling. Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk
Add to this that Europeans take MUCH longer vacations than people around the world. I am often jealous when my cousins tell me that they are spending a month off! Oh, and its just the second vacation of the year! I often marvel at the difference between the world my dad told me about and lived in, the terrible poverty, the hunger, the destitution, and the life that currently exists. I remember the first time I went to Ireland to visit family. I could barely afford to buy a McDonalds burger for dinner. A big difference between my Dads world and now. So, how does that apply to this thread? Things are different in Europe. There is a culture of privilege, of being lackadaisical. Honestly, some Europeans think we only exist in a support role (which is true to an extent).
This thread is starting to get pretty offensive towards Europeans and I am fairly certain we don't need to escalate this further. There are a number of inaccurate statements that could be addressed but probably best not to on a coin forum.
I spent a few months in Europe back in 2011. I'll never forget what a Spanish bartender in Madrid, whom I befriended during my stay there, told me: "You Americans live to work, while we Spaniards work to live." I remember when I spent a few days in the area around San Lorenzo, a mountain town 70 kilometers north of Madrid, stores would close from noon to 2 or 3PM so the employees could have their meals and a siesta. Then pretty much at 6PM everything closed except for bars and restaurants and people were out and about with their families. Something you would never see in the US.
When I went to Torino Italy EVERYTHING closed for lunch... even the restaurants! That was a culture shock, but the comment above is true- here in the US we live to work instead of work to live. Sad. Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk
Knock off the cultural bashing - this is a coin/currency forum - period! It is not a forum that targets/generalizes about different groups off people for what you feel are their shortcomings! If you cannot manage that, I will be glad to lock the thread and/or hand out infractions.
Although I am not one of the posters to which you are referring, I see no cultural bashing. Only discussions of the differences, both good and bad, between American and European cultures. If someone complained about what was said, they have thin skin. From my perspective, there was, and still is, no reason for a moderator's intervention. I am a long time poster here, and I've always had a good time here. It's really sad to see how it has degenerated lately.
Well actually I complained. Primarily about the post that was deleted but also about this quote: "A culture of pivilege, of being lackadaisical.". I don't believe that is fair at all. The bit that really rankles is that "Europeans think we [assumed to be the USA] only exist in a support role". Well this may be news, but actually we don't. There is a world out there and both the US and Europe are just players in it. I enjoy being part of this forum but do not enjoy being marginalised and never have complained before here or on others forums I enjoy. I hope that can continue in the spirit of everyone is entitled to an opinion, but not when generalisations start to cause offence. Especially when this is pointed out and then followed with an intention to make it worse.
This is a conversation we should be having in a PM. This is the kind of post I can see a moderator having a problem with in open forum. I will be glad to discuss this with you. Give me a ring out.
Oh boy! I have lots to say about this! One person seems to be hurt by my comments (bizarrely, but even more strangely a moderator agrees!). What a Bizarro Land we live in! Marcus Aurelius once said (and I suspect that Edit - Forum Rules who complained wont understand nor the moderator) "To refrain from imitation is the best revenge". This comment may get the thread locked (or deleted). Why dont we keep political crap separate?
Now, why does my iMac correct this word the way it does? I am no that ignorant, I can actually spell.
Drama like this is what keeps some I enjoy talking to on the ancient section on PCGS boards from coming/continuing here. I saw nothing wrong either.
Ah, I have people coming over for a BBQ. If not, I would bash the two Edit for the insanely ignorant posts they have done. And one is a 'moderator' to boot! How sad is that? Damn, people are coming over, maybe I can post this weekend, maybe Monday.
Bing, I am not sure what you mean. Please quote those messages so there is no misunderstanding. Who is name calling?
Ken, we really should just let this whole thing rest before it can degenerate. But this is the comment the comment of which I was referring:
