'78, '79 and '80 Quarters w/ Filled Mint Marks - Other Errors?

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by Brandon Purdum, Jun 29, 2023.

  1. I have '78, '79 and '80 d Quarters with filled mint marks, but hard for me to tell if any other errors exist. Do they? Maybe a doubled die in the "In God We Trust" on the 1980? Sorry for the ignorance.

A pic of the ‘80 is needed for an assessment. But the other two are spenders. The filled die on business strikes is so common there is no premium attached…imo…Spark

The correct numismatic terminology is Doubled die not double die. Big difference.

That's not a Doubled Die variety.

The mint marks look the way they do from wear. Not an error.

  7. Thanks. How can you tell? What gives it away as just general wear and tear?

The overall flatness on the coin. Letters and numbers touching the date. Lack of detail in the hair and other areas. These are just a few of the things to look for, especially in a coin with the newest showing a date that’s 43 years old. The first two are older.
