So far I've found 2 buffalo nickels after searching around 70 rolls. I'm wondering if this is just random luck or if you guys also average 1-2 per box.
I had found 5 total in my first 52,500 or so nickels... In the past two days, I have found 3 in 3700 coins... Yesterday a 1937 in 2900, and today a 1927, and a 1918-D in 800 coins !! Also, each batch had a 43-S & a proof! So 8 Buffs in 59,000 coins for me to date... I also have found 1 V nickel - a 1902.
I don't keep track, but I'd say about 1 in every other box maybe? It's rare that I get a box that doesn't have a War nickel or a Buff in it. <crosses fingers to prevent a jinx>
I find at least one war nic in a box, but Buffs are scarce. I've probably been through about $800 in nickels and I've found 6, I've found 3or 4 V's and dozens of war nickels. Only one proof. In boxes I've searched it's feast or famine no way to expect anything.
That sounds about right... though I don't buy boxes that often, I get 1/2 boxes (25 rolls) almost every day... More often than not, I will find a War Nickel, a Buffalo or a proof.
I have found an average of one per two boxes of nickels, but have found as many as 13 in a single box. Once my then 9 year old daughter found two 1919's in a single roll - she kept them! Little varmint !
I've found 2; an 1928 when I was CRH'ing a few years ago, and a 1921 in my mom's car coin tray when I was up for a visit last year.
I don't really hunt nickels a lot I am putting together a set from found in circulation all I lack is the 39D and 50D and I have enough pre 60's I could almost duplicate the same set. There can be some cool finds in Nickel boxed though.
I managed to that almost 30 years ago when I was working as a cashier at Taco Bell. I still have my old "finds" lists around somewhere.
only 3 in about 15 boxes for me. I average 1-2 war nicks per box, still searching for the 38s 38d 39s 39d and 50d. only 2 proofs feom the 15 boxes and 1 1940 cud
