MAD (misaligned die error). The grade? I suck at Nickel grading but I'll guess I guess. If that makes sense. MS-62? I'm probably way off. The error is messing me up!
Thanks Matt! Now I feel like garbage. Isn't it just off on the obverse? The holder makes it difficult to see.
it might be a weak strike but I see plenty of rub on the hair lib of liberty and 4 big nicks on the reverse I'm probably low but I wouldn't go beyond au unless they call it a weak strike on the label
Since the reverse is not off center in the same direction as the obverse, I think this is a misaligned die(s) error. I suck at grading, so I'll guess at AU something.
It's struck a little out of collar, it wasn't seated properly in the chamber, who cares what they call it, that's what happened with it. It's a later die state, appears absence of circulation wear, give it 62 for the market.
There are some really good guess's. Someone has said what I thought when I first looked at it. I will post the grade and errors when I get off work this evening.
(Wrong planchet?) (Most nickels do not have rims.) What is up with that “thumb’s up! Sign” above Monticello entrance, (below dome—) (Slight double-die on “S” in “States,” and die-crack through “ed” in “United?” — That is not it.) What is up with the font— the “D” in “God;” the “F” in “Five:” Is the answer, “The nickel is counterfeit?” (Because I would believe it.) (Is “FIVE” over …something else!?) (The die is 30+ years old: What possibly went wrong!? ….The font is straight out of the French Revolution!)
Since 1938 all Jefferson nickels have had rims. It is not a wrong planchet. Below the dome is a huge PMD gouge. The correct terminology is doubled-die, but the first S/STATES is not doubled. I think it is glare. No die crack through ED/UNITED. Appears to be a stain. It is not a counterfeit, the fonts are normal. There is nothing underneath the FIVE. The die that made that coin was brand new in 2000. Today it is 24 years old. Please supply an example of French Revolution fonts. Otherwise, I have no idea what you are trying to compare. @paddyman98 said it best. Additionally, the excessive contact marks on both sides indicate evidence of wear; they are all over including the tops of all the device lettering…imo…Spark
That seem like it would be special then. Would there be others like it. Like hundreds before caught. Or just one
