Wow, today I got my first 2021 $1 bill in my change. I was wondering when the new bills would be out.
I'm not a collector of bills, so, I'm not sure what the significance of owning a 2021. When my children were very young, I would give them a $2 bill on their birthday. That was quite a while ago. Now that they are in their young 50's, I just send them a card. They are making more money than me. Soon, I will be a Great Grandfather. Should I send them a $2 bill? I thought I would try to get my son interested in coin collecting. This past Christmas, I gave him a 2022 P. He thought that was cheap. This year, I'm going to send his family a Christmas card. Living on our retirement and Social Security doesn't allow much money for expensive gifts (especially if you buy a 2023 W American Buffalo .9999 Fine Gold Bullion Coin each year on our "savings" plan. (I only have 2, but my son thinks I'm hiding my gold. Litlle does he know, he hit the nail on the head.) If he had to live on what our parents lived on, he would think twice about bugging me.
I see that this bill was printed at Fort Worth for the NY Fed Res Dist. Seems that usually NY Fed Res Dist are D.C. notes.
This was exclusively the case until Series 2006. That is when "B" district started receiving an average of around 25 - 30% of printings from FW. From the perspective of the BEP it doesn't matter where notes for a particular district are printed because notes from any district can be sent anywhere in the country for distribution into circulation. This is due to rule changes that were made in the 1980's to help simplify logistics and allow for larger block printings of a district to take place in a given month. It all comes down to when a new treasurer is seated and new plates are made. A new secretary of the treasury is typically confirmed within a few days of a president being inaugurated but the position of treasurer is considered more symbolic than anything and low priority to find someone for the position. You can have printings from a new series start the same year the inauguration of a new president takes place but it is not very common. The last time was Series 2017 and prior to that was Series 2001.
No real significant value with a 2021. I was primarily interested because it's the very first 2021 I've gotten. Not only do I look at all of my coins, I also look at all of my bills too.
Please crawl back out from under a rock. The last administration canceled them. Then it was going to be 2030. Then 2028. Now it's just "accelerated" whatever that means. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/25/us/politics/tubman-20-dollar-bill.html
My friend in CA got new uncirculated straps of FRB A bills a while back... So, this proves your point!
Get out from under that rock and give us your feelings. I don’t follow newer bills either. For the most part I live in the past.
