I see the thread - but - as Frank was asking: what's going on with the REV of the coin - looks like someone used a file to gouge the coin - very strange - I can't believe NGC didn't body bag the coin - albeit an otherwise attractive coin.
Oh, ok, I didn't read about it was a struck thru coin - but - it doesn't account for the fine lined gouges on the REV. It has a certain appeal, that's for sure.
I have been searching for a Type One 1892-S Quarter in AU 58 - and last night I found one on Stacks-Bowers site { their new weekly internet only auction }. I was outbid this morning - and raised my bid by another $100 - well - that was the charm.... this evening, I saw I had won the coin - and only had to pay an additional $50 over my initial max bid. Its not a head turner - but - its got very subtle silver toning - {except the Slab Shot shows a real screamer}.... Who knows what I'll get... I have waited 5 yrs for this Date, Mint and Type to show up somewhere !!
I found a nice 1905-S Half on eBay the other day - and as I am not enamoured with the 45 I have - I decided to spring for the new AU 53 ... and a friend grabbed my XF 45 CAC : { It was CAC'd two weeks ago after these images ! } The AU 53 needs a trip to the Bean Factory !!
I still have short hair - my girlfriend calls it my school boy look. Its easier to take care of .... I picked up a neat 1909-O Dime in PC 58 - but, the images are terrible. One of these days, I'll have professional ones taken.
I picked up a couple of newps today - an upgrade for the Dime set - I have a nice 58 - but I liked the look of this 62 as well... I have been searching for moderately price Proof V Nickels - and most have got all sorts of problems... I think this one is pretty decent - Its only a PR 64 - CAM & its CAC... hard to beat that combo...
Not trying to bust the Barber theme of the thread but it looks lonely over here --and I haven't bought a new Barber recently. Here's my proof V nickel. You can also find affordable shield nickels. Trust me, it's affordable! LOL
Santinidollar... A few weeks back, I located a nice MS 1883 V Nickel - in PCGS MS 64 - very well struck - and CAC liked it when I submitted it. Nice Proof - a sub set that I'm slowly working on .... I just added a decent MS - 1911 - as I have an AU 58 {ex: Grandpa Hayes } and I think this one [ in an older holder ] is undergraded - its got neat toning [IMHO] ....
At the upcoming show, should I get a Liberty gold $2.50 or a lowish grade proof Barber dime? $2.50 would be exciting because it's not only gold but kind of like a Seated coin (same designer) or a proof Barber dime (very low mintages, bragging rights about owning one of less than 800 coins in the world)
If I didn't already collect Barbers, I might opt for the Gold Quarter Eagle. I have a nice 1908-D Quarter from the collection of Don Willis... an AU 58. I have not gotten the professional images back from my guy, yet. Tonight, I stumbled across another 08-D Quarter - also in PC 58 - it was a "Best Offer" and it was accepted.... Its going to CAC as soon as I get it. The Willis coin did not pass at CAC.
Its late and I don't feel like posting for an hour - all the newps - but - here is the new hole filler for the Dime set: PCGS 63 - Its going to CAC asap !! The other 63 in the set: The Everyman Set place holder !
