I've spent hours upon hours of my life with a loupe & Cherrypicker's Guide. Only found a handful of varieties, and mostly not super exciting ones. 1964 Accented Hair, etc. Happened to be going through small group of Mercury dimes for a friend this afternoon and had just about given up when I came across this one. Didn't need the loop or Cherrypickers to know what I found. Hope this gives a little hope to everyone else out there variety picking! Thoughts on grade? VF/XF? Cleaned?
Awesome find . . . congratulations! Looks like it might be considered market acceptable. Definitely send it in to get the TPG to authenticate it, even if it won't straight grade.
…A collectors’ dream-come-true! I remember seeing a picture of this in my first Yeoman Red Book thinking what a fantastic find it would be…and here you go and actually do it! Kudos to you!…Spark
Congrats on stumbling upon a great collectors bucket list find. As you stated @HULLCOINS no loupe necessary for that beauty. And as @ToughCOINS said, send that puppy in for slabbing and authenticating.
So....what's the deal with it? What makes it sought after? I think I just answered my own question. I went and looked up 1942 dime on ebay and what came up was the 2 over the 1 in the date. Now I see it on this one. Great.
Nice that you did a little research and found out why it’s sought after. The 1942/41 is as plain as the nose on your face. LOL No need for magnification on it. However the 1942/1-D is harder to see. The first sun is the 4 appears to be slightly doubled. The mint did a cleaner job of rubbing out the 1 on the Denver issue. Your Red Book should clearly show the differences.
Thanks everyone for the positive responses. I'll submit for grading and share the outcome when I hear back!
Hi All! It took awhile to get graded- but I received the coin back last week. Excited about the grade and was happy to share the discovery with my friend.
