I just got a new 1882-CC and was just wondering what people thought of it, I thought I'd do a compare and contrast, the first coin is the new coin and the second is one I have with a known grade. Which one is preferred? #1 #2
Near as I can tell - better details of the neck and mouth area would be necessary for certainty - these are both VAM-3, in the intermediate stage between 3A and 3B when the dies were repolished. I'd need to see clearly whether there's letter transfer and clashing artifacts about the lips to be sure. So that's a wash, and I'm going to favor the first coin by a slight margin for the better-struck and less-marked reverse.
Thry are both comparable but the first one is a slightly stronger strike so #1 it is for me but either would be fine. We're talking coke and Pepsi with these two
The first has a better strike or at least was struck on a better planchet. The second has some planchet striations on the cheek.
I would say they grade the same, but I prefer #1 in terms of eye appeal. It is a better strike, and has a more cameo appearance.
