Something equally Franklin Mint-esque, I'm sure.

Had a question on these. I really want some Ronald Reagan dollars. The only one of the series I am highly interested in. Is the only way to get them from the Mint or do banks have them still?

Those coins that are still sitting in the vaults should be sold off at face value, any amount plus the regular shipping fee. This series was a fiasco from the start with the exception of the first couple that had no lettering and double lettering ( good for us collectors ). It would be nice, but unlikely, to go back to the size of the Ike Dollar with classic designs, so much more room for good renderings. One can dream.

They can be had but only by the roll on special order. It used to be each teller got so many on release day. Now they don't stock them at all anymore.

    The Trump Dollar lol

Seriously though. Unless we make a solid push to kill the $1 note there is absolutely no reason to create another useless coin

Originally the size of coinage was determined by silver content. That no longer exists. So lets make size a reference to value. As tommyco3 said, make dollar coins the size of Ike Dollars, halfs the same size. dimes the size of nickels, nickles the size of dimes and leave pennies alone. Maybe put a dot somewhere on them so the blind can know their change. They will be discontinued at some point anyway. Change will be easily recognized for all this way including the handicapped. It will make the minting of these coins much more cost efficient as well.

We got two Cleveland dollars. Adams, Jefferson, Van Bueren,
The Ronald Reagan Dollars won't be released to the banks, you'll have to order them from the mint. No dollar coins post-2011 have been released directly to the banks because they accumulated too many of them that nobody wants.

There's no need to even have pennies or nickels, just keep the dime/quarter/half the same size they already are and make the Dollar the size of the Ike dollars.

When the half-cent was discontinued in 1857, it was worth over 30 cents in today's money.

I know there is no need for pennies and nickels but that hasn't influence Congress at all. The first baby step would be pennies. How the public see's the change will influence Congress on future moves. We have a static government and non partisan agreement is rare. It could be years later. My suggestion is for present time, not the future.

We should follow the Canadians as far as them discontinued the 1 and 2 dollar notes. Remove the cent and nickel. Dimes and quarters stay in circulation . States would issues tax tokens (another collector item for some of us) .
The money saved from getting rid of the two notes and cents and nickels would be a huge.
As a collector yes it breaks my heart not to have coins to collect . However this would be a win/ loose situation . I believe it would drive up values of the coins now available.
As collectors we all have to realize that the amount of new collectors is such a low percentage . Would I like to see coins go the same way as Stamps have? No of course not.....but ask yourself this question . How many stamp collectors do you know? How many are middle aged?
Now one of the issues I have heard from people in general is we don't want to carry dollar coins, heavy in the pocket etc.
Next consider that for the most part we are becoming a cashless society . I myself carry a lot of cash due to my job and places it takes me. Less chance of being robed. And if they do take my wallet I can have a card replaced in little time and the other canceled on the spot.
Do I like what I just noted above no! As I am a collector and I'm from a different era where cash was king.
A time that one could build a collection without going to a coin shop.
It just makes sense to make changes , the cost of production the availability to even get half's or dollar coins these day's . Banks really don't want to order coins that you are going to bring back a few days later.
I can see most saying no we are not going to be the middle man . Handling coins we do not use in out business.

Just one other thought...... revisiting the classic coinage may be a disappointment . After seeing the new gold Mercury dime and designs of the other two the quarter, and half we may be disappointed .
We as collectors really appreciate the designs of our classic coinage. I do believe that if copied the finial product will be a lot less then expected .
Let's face it holding a Morgan,Peace, or any coins from that period the look and feel can't be reproduced .
One would think that at this point in history the finished product would surpass that of the late 1800's early 1900's.
For some reason to my liking other world mints seem to produce a better product.
Yes true the RCM and Perth do put out a lot of "Granny Bait items "
However the quality is there, and the design is there.
The sad part is that we the people don't have a say, just the representatives who are supposed to voice our wishes do everything but.

If the paper buck went bye bye, then merchants would order these and folks would readily accept them and the country could save 180 million a year. Mercahnts whining about the costs would be whining into the wind since its an overhead cost that they already deduct!

There is really no GOOD reason to continue with the paper bill.

Coins depicting U.S. historical events would be cool as long as the designs were as good as the better National Parks series.

Casinos used to demand silver dollars. Then the worker's comp costs associated with lugging change bags caught up to them. That's why the slot machines spit out a ticket these days.
