I thought "Poor-1" was listed as "PO 01". Oh, I guess that's PCGS nomenclature, right? ..so poor that it couldn't afford the other 'O' and the 'R'.
Sorry, But low ball is a new term for me. Would that be any coin that's graded less than Good ? or AG ?
Usually it's for a coin that is graded Poor-1 or Fair-2. About Good-3 is considered too good to be considered a Low Ball (usually) -please correct me if I'm wrong
I have one of this exact variety. Little better shape, though scratched. Was the first coin I bought as an adult when I got back in. Was surprised to see this posted. There are several varieties of this date. You rarely see them though.
That's the wrong reverse for VAM-1C* - looks more like V17 - so what's up with the inside edge of the left wreath? Just illusion?
Believe it or not there is a vigorous collecting subculture that builds sets of Poor-1's. The challenge is to find coins that will get the coveted Poor-1 from a grading service but not have so many details gone that it will be rejected for grading. There's also the challenge of taking a coin that is "better" than Poor-1 and artificially wearing it down to that grade, but not going too far. Ready to join in? Cal
