Your sorting box, and what may be found there

I'm sure you all have a box (old cigar box, tobacco tin, tupperware box, whatever) for the 'recent' acquisitions that need to be sorted out, measured and weighed, described and put in their right place in your collection. I'd like to see your box and a few coins in it, like this:

Here are some of the coins, left to right: a Ghorid dirhem, a Norman Sicilian kharrube, two Nabataeans and a coin yet to be determined; a Mamluk bronze, a Kujula Heraios obol, a pre-reform Omayyad bronze, an Alexandrian drachm of sorts, a 3rd century Roman barb imitation, a Frisian 11th century penny, a Sicilian Hohenstaufen denaro and a Soghdian cash coin. All acquired in the last three months, except for the drachm, that was given to me some years ago.

I don't want to embarass myself. I have a sorting box but I am a long way behind in my sorting and it contains several hundred coins.

You could just depict the (closed) box. Besides, so far I only described a small number of the Roman coins my father-in-law left to me, four years ago. There should be 200 coins in my box. (We all need a nice long holiday...)

Sorting-box?!! ... you dudes must buy far more coins than I do?

=> I check the mailbox every day when I'm expecting a new coin and when it finally arrives ...

=> it hits the assembly-line and gets processed immediately!! (maybe I have more spare coin-time on my hands?)

My desk before I cleaned it up last month. I think it was getting just a tad out of hand.

Same here little brother. However, I don't always post coins right away.

You are just FAR more organized that most of us, apparently (and somewhat surprisingly!).

Great picture! I'd love to sit there and paw through that bowl of coins :)

No box, just a bookshelf where new buys get placed before I weigh them and put them in flips. Im pretty consistent on keeping them up.

@TIF : By cleaning I mean I just straightened it up a bit to appease the wife. One day I'll start going through them, just not today ... or tomorrow ... or ...

No waiting inventories: In-bound coins to my desk, to attribute, pictured, recorded, put into flip, and costed. Immediately to album for end-storage and security.

    Lean-manufacturing, just-in-time, flow approach. NEXT!

    I completely understand :D
Being a chronically disorganized in my personal life (I like to blame excess creativity and too little time...), I console myself with this:

@TIF I am a dichotomy... Disorganized organization. Creative but also pragmatic. Write with my right hand, but do virtually everything else with my left. Own several utlity patents to my name but cannot build furniture or make clothes like you! :)

When I was on active duty, my desk was cleaned and straight at the close of every business day. I expected the same from those that worked for me. No excuse for leaving any classified out unsecured. That has carried over since I retired.

@TIF : Love the Einstein pic and believe it or not I have a BS in Physics (a long time ago). I've noticed a lot of math type folks, including myself, are not the most organized people in the world.

I have been diagnosed as severely dyslexic... LOL, I have made it this far... So I might be functional...

As far as sloppiness, I have always been sloppy. Hired and have been around a lot of creative people...A sloppy work area around them showed they were doing their jobs well !!! I EXPECTED them to be sloppy... :D

Why, yes, I do have a sorting box. But the rest of the family just refers to it as "our house".

No military but I was raised by neat freaks. My dad especially. I alway had a clean bedroom growing up, my desk where my computer is only has 3 items on it, otherwise it's got tons of open space.

As a kid I always took care of my stuff, rarely broke anything and due to that, it helped me when I sold things I didn't care about anymore since their condition was excellent.

I can't stand messes, drives me nuts. I have friends & relatives who can leave dishes in a sink for a week, clothes thrown everywhere and they wonder why they have Roaches or ants?

I also won't clean other people's messes. If they make it, they have to clean it.
