I posted this before with pictures I have better pictures now. At first I thought it was a scratch but with these new pictures you can see the extra "I" has a circle from the stamp, its not as heavy as the "I" between the R & B but it definitely has an outline from a stamp.

Let me know what you guys think.

    Thanks

There are 2 ways extra lettering occurs..
When the edge was run through the special machine to add the lettering it could of been done twice.
There are attributed coins labeled - Double Edge Lettering

    Here is some information -

    Edge Inscription Errors
The use of edge inscriptions added a level to the minting process for circulating Presidential Dollars. Minting must occur in two steps.

In the first step, blanks are fed into a coining machine, which strikes the obverse and reverse designs on the coins. These coins are dispensed into a large bin. In the second step, coins from the bins are fed into an edge-incusing machine, which produces the inscriptions.

Because of the process described, the heads-tails orientation of the lettering on circulating coins is random. Approximately one half of the time the lettering will be heads-side up, and one half of the time the lettering will be tails-side up.

Errors have occurred when coins have not received the second step of the minting process and were released into circulation without edge lettering. Other errors have occurred when the edge lettering has been doubled or doubled and inverted.

The other way is when a coin gets hits hard by another lettered edge coin.

Both are common and really nothing major.

If you look close enough at the edge marked coins you will see marks and scratches that are standard manufacturing variables. The challenge would be to find one that doesn't have those marks and scratches. JMO
