Going through my pocket change I found this and almost put it in a roll but the odd curves made me think twice. I'm thinking some how at the mint this one got pressed by other coins, is this possible, or is it something else?
I guess you're thinking that if it were post-mint damage there would be some corresponding damage on the reverse? I can see your reasoning, but I can't see anything that would happen inside the striking chamber to produce this. I think it's damage, even if I don't know exactly what caused it.
Probably the bottom coin in a bulk bag. https://catalog.usmint.gov/bulk-purchase-program-landing.html
I still think it's odd how it's damage is perfectly lines up with quarters, I've never seen one before. thanks again for the education everyone
Yes I also thought if it was struck again there would be designs were it struck and if a coin was press against it hard enough to indent it, it would have a design mirrored on it. learning is fun
When I first looked at the quarter lined up on the other quarter. I thought for a minute or two and figured it out. You take one quarter and line it up on the other quarter, then you get a big hammer and slam it down on the other quarter. It may not have been done that was, but, to me, it's more logical. Oh yeah, don't forget to spend the quarter that the hammer hit, because slow people will figure it out and then make a replica of the hammer that was hit. Do ya get it?
Are you saying I made the marks on the quarter by using some kind of hammer? The reason I lined the other 2 quarters on top was to show how it lined up perfectly so I would get the best education about what I had and I'm grateful for all the information I receive. Now if you are implying that I'm somehow involved in creating the coins damage to try and con people let me tell you that I have over 20 peoples house keys cause I either house sit or train dogs for individuals needs like medical service animals, police and customs, to family protection dogs. My clients range from mayors to judges ,dog sled teams, military bomb or drug detection, search and rescue. I would scam anyone I was raised with murals and respect.
Hmm. Someone get up on the wrong side of the bed?? Where did this come from? It's a damaged coin! Move on.
If we were all sitting around a table such as the coin club meeting last week, there would be no confusion ( and if there was, people asked nicely for additional info). With online/non-video, many think the worse, rather than the better. By all means, ask for clarification if needed, but do so on the expectation that someone is trying to help you, and you will learn great a deal. And I must admit some great and knowledgeable members can get grumpy, but that doesn't change the coin itself. Jim
Cool your jets, as some of the older members might say. I can't speak for Jim, but I certainly didn't read anything into his comments that would lead me to believe he was accusing anyone. Your photo of the other quarters lined up on top of the damaged one, was, and probably is, the cause of the damage, as you suggested. A suggestion, if I may. Post all photos Full Image, not thumb nail. If you aren't sure how to do that, please just ask. Also cropping so just the coin shows, would be helpful.
Thank you I didn't know I was posting thumb nail photos, and to be honest I was a plumber before my car accident and I didn't find much use for a computer underneath a house so I don't have much experience using computers, go ahead and laugh I am. I don't have all my fingers that's why it's so funny to me.
