Howdy folks! Picked up this new addition earlier the week to add to my '43 mint set. What do you think PCGS graded it as? Hint: somewhere between VF30 and MS70; right in there..
MS-66 Full Bans. The trouble is once you get to MS-66 and beyond, it's virtually impossible to grade them from the photo. It could be an MS-67, but I doubt that it's an MS-68 because they don't hand out those kinds of grades to coins from this era.
MS66 Full. Should be 67 but when they get that high they hold back for die wear and polish lines, or rather have a tendency to. I don't agree with it, but then I'm not them. Great luster on that baby.
absolute beauty but that one dink on the wing I think held it back just a bit 66FB without that dink i could even say 68...
First look (and no peeking) '67 full bands. Lovely coin and an admirable addition to anyones set. [after peeking] I see a lot of folks agree with my assessment....don't mean dirt, though.
I'm on the MS66-FB wagon as well. Did notice a blemish near the T on the obv, and what might be a light contact mark on the upper diagonal wrapping band of the fasces on the rev but not enough on either to really knock the grade down any further IMO.
This is PCGS's TrueView -- which they take without the holder. If I'm not mistaken (and hoping folks here can educate me if I'm wrong), but as a few others above suggest, those are die polishing marks.
Yes they look like die polishing lines and PCGS does take the photo before encapsulating the coin (only exception is when someone sends in an old holder that they don't want to crack in for a TrueView-then the photo is through the slab).
That's right -- I've seen PCGS TrueView photos of GSA Carson City dollars and it's very evident they're (unfortunately, but understandably) photographed through their often times scratchy plastic.
