I have this penny that really looks like a double hit. Not totally sure what I'm looking at though. What do you all think?
Welcome to Coin Talk. I believe the coin you posted show signs of Die Deterioration Doubling. https://www.error-ref.com/die-deterioration-doubling/
Coins are not hit, they are minted. There are numerous things that can cause doubling like you see on this coin. This is from a worn die and that’s very common. It does nothing to increase its value but it is a great educational piece. Welcome to CT.
I assume you mean "this is what it would look like if it were a real doubled die, but it isn't", right?
Welcome to CT @Wdustin1. I'm not sure how you are posting your photos to the post, but if you can, after loading them, you should see two buttons; Thumbnail, and Full Image. Click on Full Image and it allows us to easily see, and enlarge, the picture for better assessment. Good luck.
I agree with the die deterioration ( Wear), but it is easier to tell on Lincolns if it shows the L in Liberty as it spreads to the edge and causes the "fake" doubling due to wear. Saves money for the mint though Jim
