I haven't really scoured eBay in a couple of years .. had a look again today and it hasn't improved as far as I can tell. What a mess. Its understandable that some collectors keep their sellers to themselves - I get it. However if anyone is willing to guide the rest of us I am sure some here would appreciate it. Cheers! Here is probably the last coin I purchased on eBay a few years ago... the seller is no longer in business as far as I can tell.
I haven't purchased off of Ebay in a very long time, so any of the good sellers I knew are probably gone. I will check tomorrow.
NeroCoins who I buy uncleaned coins from is on there, and also some members here sell on eBay. Other than that, I couldn't tell ya. As a novice, I avoid it unless I know the seller from someplace else.
I've purchased ancients in the past from eternitycoin, an eBay seller based in Beverly Hills, California. He sells mainly slabbed coins, but also the occasional raw coin as well. Almost all of the coins purchased from him are owls of various types and periods. This seller also has Roman coins, and world and US as well. He always seem to have a large inventory. The slabbed coins, all NGC as far as I can tell, are not over priced, at least compared to other sellers, and now and then a pretty good deal can be made if you are knowledgeable on the field of ancients you're collecting . From time to time he offers a 5% discount. I think, especially for coins that he's had for a while, he could go lower, but you need to contact him about that. I always buy the coin, not the slab, and most purchased from this seller have been removed, or liberated if you will.
So far, I have not had any problems with eBay. When I find something on eBay that I would like to add to my collection, I do a lot of homework before I buy anything from them. I have had to cancel a few purchases, but nothing substantial.
Here are a few I've used in the past. I can't guarantee any of them are still selling on Ebay Cody111111 Holding History Denant BJ Imperials amphoracoins ancient_treasures Den of Antiquity failla_numismatics_inc,
Ebay is Good if a buyer really can identify what specifically they are buying which is being offered with their current knowledge. What I do not understand is why members of this forum seems to only use their FOR SALE forum and not the WANTED forum where you could Most often get actually what you ask for. And of course the TRADE forum similarly. I am "lazy" and don't mind dealing with members , but hate going the eBay coin party where 90% of the coins aren't what they say they are. If you want a specific coin , ask for it in the proper forum. If their price is too much , don't accept, it may come down. Likewise you may get multiple replies. Its just odd that people will deal with strangers or strange looking coins and then get upset when it isn't what they thought it was. Jim
