Please guess the grade of the 1981-P Jefferson Nickel shown below. I have attached a poll for you to cast your vote and you may select up to 3 different things: the numerical grade, 5FS or Not FS, and + grade.

Please don't forget to vote in the poll about how you think NGC graded the coin, and as always, comments welcome.

It doesn't look like your kind of coin @Lehigh96. I said MS 63 no steps.

AU-58, no steps, scratches, appears to have been cleaned. My opinion only, good luck.

The scratches are raised and are die polish lines.

MS 65 (no full steps)...the area right after the first column precludes any possibility of 5FS....the scattered hits/marks make it max out at 65 in my opinion (even if the fields seem fairly nice and there might even be a semi pl look to the coin).

Is this a trick. Your GTG COINS usually are always making my eyes bulge out

Don't feel bad everyone, nobody guessed the assigned grade because the assigned grade is simply wrong. I can see this coin getting MS65, but it rightly belongs in either an MS63 or MS64 slab. The assigned grade is absolutely ludicrous and this will be the 2nd coin that I have sent back to a TPG for appearance review. The first one they refused to pay me. I can't see how they can stand behind this monstrosity.

    That is surprising!
Did you send that in yourself and get the grade?

No, I bought it off eBay in a no reserve auction with a terrible photo. Typically when I buy an overgraded coin, I just sell it off and try to get my money back, but I am embarrassed to sell this thing, and it is almost guaranteed to get returned.

NGC used to be the go to for an honestly graded Nickel. What the heck is going on?

Yeah, I am also wondering that too. Especially with the new NGCX....

Big surprise to me. I was way off. The issues are very visible, in my opinion.
