For several years I've been using the free photo editing software PhotoscapeX. I recently had my laptop (Dell Inspiron 15 5000) upgraded (4GB RAM to 16, 1TB Opto HDD to 2TB SDD) and my tech did me an unannounced "favor" by upgrading me from Windows 10 to 11. So far, so good except that PhotoscapeX won't work with Windows 11. Does anyone have a suggestion for a replacement? The app will only be used for coin/macro photography. Here's what I'd like to have a features/characteristics, not necessarily in any order of priority: 1. Ease of use/intuitive interface. Nothing as complicated or difficult to learn like Adobe Photoshop. 2. Free or relatively inexpensive purchase or annual subscription. I wouldn't want to pay more than $100/year for a subscription. 3. Obvious features like external cropping but internal cropping would also be nice. Combining photo files and also layering them. Thanks for any suggestions.
Can you use the on-line version with Windows 11, instead of downloading the program to your hard drive?
I've never seen an on-line version. I've looked all around the website and I only see the downloadable version and it only goes to Windows 10.
Check the Microsoft store in windows 11. I’ve downloaded a working version of photoscape from there in the past couple weeks.
https://www.photoscapeonline.com/ it is not the X version and after looking it appears to be very limited in functions.
This material might help for other reasons . https://www.windowscentral.com/soft...get-started-with-new-photos-app-on-windows-11 But I will only use Win11 over my dead computer. The college expert says it was designed for MS use to see what users are doing rather for the users themselves. I do not know if that is the case, but surely possible Jim Jim
Get ready for a big surprise Jim. MS will discontinue upgrades for Win 10 in June of 2025. Most older computers will not support Win 11 as the hardware will not be compatible. Graphics and sound cards will be useless and many peripherals also, like your printer, scanner, camera, etc. If you are not worried about security patches you might get by for a while. But there are going to be an awful lot of perfectly good computers that are going to have to be tossed. And what they are offering extra in Win 11 could have been integrated as simple updates to Win 10. Saw all this in an article on Malwarebytes site.
I guess the price for the new MS-DOS will be triple and charge for updates. I have used #1,2,3,4, and a little of FreeDos of the ones below, plus android, etc. Life will continue I am sure. I used to use photoshop, but since they switched to subscription, I stopped using it. And I can't stand GIMP. I use https://www.photopea.com/, free online image editor, very similar for photoshop. Does what I need, with no issues.
paint.net You can buy it through the MS store for a nominal fee or download it for free from getpaint.net
I have Adobe Photoshop Elements. The instructions with it are useless, but I was able to get though enough by working with it to get what I want. I had the Microsoft photo processing program for years, but it went by the boards when I got Windows 10. My computer guy has advised us to avoid Windows 11 like the plague. He says it has bugs in it. They will probably be worked out when they force you to Windows 12 which will be equally problem ridden. Most all of this software "improvement" is planned obsolescence which improves their bottom line. In the meantime you lose the computer games you used to enjoy, which no doubt intentional so that you will be forced to use Microsoft games. Enough grousing.
At best that's pretty dated advice. Windows 11 is now on its 3rd release (GA, 21H2, and 22H2) and for most users is very stable.
