I have not purchased any coins but I would think that for 1, look how they are placed in the “slabs”. I would think anything presented from them would not be presented in that fashion. How it’s presented is a negative. For me anyway. Some coins I have seen here that they have purchased and shown the members are no way presented in that way.

It's usage. Savant is like Brilliant. But when used with idiot as in Idiot Savant, it is a term of derision.

So look at the context in which it is used. My guess is that it is the former, rather than the latter. He has a super sharp eye and mind and a great group of cohorts helping him find examples to confirm these evil counterfeits.

You would think that the bay would have
some so called experts on hand to pull
    these things off the listing.

I know it's a pipe dream, but those "experts" should vet every coin that gets posted there before it's allowed. They've been skirting the law for years by looking the other way and playing dumb. The Hobby Protection Act says "It shall be a violation of the Act and the regulations promulgated thereunder for a person to provide substantial assistance or support to any manufacturer, importer, or seller of imitation numismatic items, or to any manufacturer or importer of imitation political items, if that person knows or should have known that the manufacturer, importer, or seller is engaged in any practice that violates the Act."

They know that they're providing a platform for the sale of counterfeits. Their platform is enormously profitable. I don't know if there have been any legal cases setting precedent on this, but they seem to get away with it because there's no requirement to proactively vet these fakes. They (apparently) don't do a thing until someone reports it, and even then it seems to take a special connection like Jack to get them to do anything about it. The law needs more teeth.

    Rant off.

It seems with so many checks and balances in place something like this
    shouldn’t be happening !!

Just having "Mogan" on the label looks wrong.
I have only seen this on 1921-P Morgans since Peace Dollars also use that date.

It happened once on a "colonial coin."

It's really sad that PCGS threatens to punish the messenger instead of working with the messenger. I could see them putting Jack on their payroll to help combat this serious problem.

Seems like eBay tried to introduce something like that for -- handbags? Or something fashion-related, I don't remember. I don't know what became of it.

Given the volume of coins that get listed, they'd need to hire more people than all the TPGs combined. They'd likely increase the listing fee for the category to, oh, let's say $50 per coin, with discounts for bulk submission and "economy" service, or extra charges for "express" listing approval... on second thought, let's not suggest this to them.

They do get upset with anything being said that's negative about PCGS. It's their house with strong rules.
They should be joining the threads with input on the problem. Not talking about it or letting others is not helpful to anyone.
They should hire you to help point out what's bad.

Does PCGS provide a buy-back guarantee for their holdered coins?

It's probably idiotic to ask, but does anyone who buys these fakes have any recourse regarding PCGS? I think I know the answer but I'll just toss it out there for commentary.

If one did have recourse with PCGS (regarding the fake slabs/coins) I do believe they'd be paying a little more attention to what Jack is documenting.........

PCGS runs their forum like Stalin runs a country. A prolific author (RWB) and I demonstrated that their designation of a 1942 pattern cent as "high relief" was bogus, and after 20 pages of posts and many hours of research, they poofed the whole thread. RWB literally wrote the book on 1942 experimental cents, and he was banned for no apparent reason. Then the president posts a thread on their "secret rules" for forum posts, I asked what their rules are for deleting threads that embarrass them, and boom, instant ban. Needless to say, they'll never get any of my business.

Obviously ebay would have to hire a few experts to vet their coins, but I don't think it would be as onerous as @-jeffB indicates. For slabbed coins, they could require sellers to input the cert numbers, and validating against the TPG and a list of known fake slabs could be automated. A similar database of the most frequently faked coins that get automatic review would weed out a big chunk and not cost all that much. But they prefer to run a flea market, because they can.
