Please guess the grade of the 1981-P Jefferson Nickel shown below. I have attached a poll for you to cast your vote and you may select up to 3 different things: the numerical grade, 5FS or Not FS, and + grade. Please don't forget to vote in the poll about how you think NGC graded the coin, and as always, comments welcome.
MS 65 (no full steps)...the area right after the first column precludes any possibility of 5FS....the scattered hits/marks make it max out at 65 in my opinion (even if the fields seem fairly nice and there might even be a semi pl look to the coin).
Don't feel bad everyone, nobody guessed the assigned grade because the assigned grade is simply wrong. I can see this coin getting MS65, but it rightly belongs in either an MS63 or MS64 slab. The assigned grade is absolutely ludicrous and this will be the 2nd coin that I have sent back to a TPG for appearance review. The first one they refused to pay me. I can't see how they can stand behind this monstrosity.
No, I bought it off eBay in a no reserve auction with a terrible photo. Typically when I buy an overgraded coin, I just sell it off and try to get my money back, but I am embarrassed to sell this thing, and it is almost guaranteed to get returned.
