A note about 2017

I'm especially fond of the JFK Half; only missing the 98-matte. However, I think it should be both commemorative AND discontinued after 2017 - here's why:
    1) The cent must cease; likewise, the paper-dollar.
    2) Put the Lincoln design on the 5-cent nickel AND create a rather generic 2-cents coin reminiscent of our old type (this coin would probably last 5-6-years or until folks just get used to rounding-to-nearest-.05 for change).
    3) FDR Dime stays as well as quarters-program (might consider all famous Americans, however: Jimmy Hendrix; W.C.Fields; Robert Frost; Mark Twain; Judy Garland, Roy Rogers, etc.)
    4) After the limited-JFK-Birthday-Half sells out, sometime the 3rd-week in April, 2017, roll out the new, golden Jefferson-$5-coin with same specs as the obsolete half-dollar!
    5) Pump up the volume of Native-1$-coins as the Washington dollar bill is discontinued.
    6) Congress shall allow states to issue coins representative of their respective sales tax - not just for convenience, but also to fill demand for coinage due to all the hoarders of the old 1-Cent, and new 2-Cents coins! Whenever state sales tax should change, simply turn them it to any bank and redeem per-piece the new-value-coin. This will also make us much more aware of just what we all pay our governments directly from consumption.
I believe the above accommodations would not only save the government(s) 100s-of-millions of dollars over time but would ALSO serve in expanding the hobby of numismatics!

I believe a law was passed about ten years ago to keep Jefferson and Monticello on the nickel until the day after Armageddon.

For some reason I can't put my finger on, I have a problem with W.C. Fields being on our coinage.

I still can't figure out why the mint celebrated the anniversary of the Kennedy half when the actual 100th anniversary of JFK was only 3 years away. It's kind of like the mint celebrating the mint instead of JFK.

I collect silver proof Kennedy Halves and I only need to upgrade my 1964 PR69CAM to PF69DCAM to have the number 1 set in the PCGS Registry of Silver Proof Kennedy Half Dollars.

JFK's birth isn't significant, except to those who view that era as some sort of golden age and attribute it to him when he wasn't responsible for it anyway. There is no need for another commemorative coin. The commemorative program already issues too many coins for events of dubious or meritless distinction.

I was a student in High School when he was campaigning for President. He came to our town and the High Schools were dismissed to go and hear him speak. I went and I consider it one of the best decisions I've made. You may not like JFK, but there are those of us who felt if he had not been assassinated, he may have done great things for this country. I suppose someone will come back with a comment on his personal life, but he really wasn't that different than other Presidents, he just happened to be in office when the press started to talk about those things. I'm more concerned about his accomplishments and potential accomplishments as President rather than what he did in his personal life.

Your post reminds me why I stopped posting on this forum, it seems the posts have to be funny, sarcastic or rude to be accepted by other members. New members are discouraged from participating and everyone uses an alias instead of their real names (hiding behind fake names?). I've always found coin collectors to be a kind and friendly lot, I guess I'll just stick to other forums.

My post wasn't rude. My post wasn't directed at you, you are not the thought police on this forum and I'm not going to write my posts to please you either.

It isn't that I dislike him and my opinion has nothing to do with his personal life. I think he is over rated and the only reason he is held in such high esteem is precisely because he was assassinated. I don't think he was a bad president but like practically everyone else, his reputation is a function of the time and circumstances in which he lived. I've said similar things to one of my friends who thinks likewise about Ronald Reagan. If he were President now, it wouldn't bring back the economy of the 80's like he thinks.

If JFK had survived, I believe he would have been re-elected to a second term and suffered the same unpopularity LBJ did from the Vietnam War.

Back to the present, like I said, it's primarily those of your age who hold him in such high regard. The history challenged younger generation doesn't know much about him and may not have a clue.

A Coin Talk username is not "fake", it is simply some name that you choose. In one of your earlier posts you asked about how to change yours; now you may have changed your mind and prefer your current one. Nothing wrong with that, but in many online communities usernames are absolutely common.

As for a 2017 JFK commem, if that was a new occasion specific design, I would find it interesting. Yet another "copy" of an already existing design - nah, thanks.

Hey. We have fun around here. And a user name is advisable for anyone who collects coins -- and would like to keep robbers out of their house. It doesn't do much good to tell a gun wielding jerk that your collection is in a bank vault. Just common sense.
