1987 p Kennedy Half Dollar DDO?????

I’ve had several of these 1987 mint sets, but I’ve never really had a look at the half dollars bc I could never find any error on them from Wexler’s or Variety Vista’s page. It completely looks doubled to me……….. but then it was a nonstop weekend of being SUPER GOOD and I am still seeing double on everything!! Lol! Thanks in advance for all your input!

Flat and Shelflike IMHO

 

Are these split serifs? I can't tell if they are or just strange reflections of some sort...

 

I totally thought they were split. I originally looked with my loupe, then used the microscope for a few quick pics! The half dollar is still in the mint cello! I wasn’t smart enough to bring gloves in today & I would definitely drop it a few times!

I would normally not disagree with Ed but I am def. seeing those split serifs you are seeing. I say yes to a doubled die. Check against Wexler's listings and see if you find a match. If not, while rare, you may have a new variety. I'll let you do the legwork as you have it in hand and can tell if there are any PUPS to match against.

 

I also think it is just the lighting of the comparatively large letters. If the microscope is one of those with a ring of lights around the camera lens rather than just one or 2 lights on the sides, this effect occurs more commonly. IMO, Jim

 

I am about to take it out of the plastic now and take some pics with my camera! And although my microscope does have those 2 extra lights- I HATE THEM TOO! I NEVER use them, I see way too many things that aren’t there! Lol! I should have some new pics in about ten minutes!

Sadly, there is absolutely no listing on Wexler or Variety Vista to help me out on this one!!! So if it’s a first— WOOT WOOT!!! GO ME!! And it’s not even my birthday!! And WHI WANTS TO BUY IT FOR …………………… ONE MILLION DOLLARS!!!

 

Do take @desertgem advice tho and try to get some different light and angles. Your very first pic does look like split serifs but I'm always willing to eat crow if this turns out differently.

I don't know?? It looks more like what I like to call " Microscope glare".
