I still wish I could know what the fallout was from that time Dad wanted to send me an Allen wrench for my garbage disposal, and he just plopped it into a plain envelope with a regular stamp. I got an envelope with a small hole at one end, and some very bold skid marks running lengthwise. I shudder to think how much damage he caused to a sorting machine by trying to save a buck on packaging and postage...
As a Property/Casualty Agent/Broker, I’m sometimes ashamed of some insurance claim systems. If you buy first party insurance you should get good customer service. We have a right to complain when we don’t
I'm seeing the common denominator here as being the way coins are packaged. Many moons ago when I did a lot of selling I would ship coins in a 2x2 flip affixed to a receipt that was then folded around it. That was then encased with clear packing tape between two 3x5 index cards that had both send and return addresses written on the outside. That was then placed in a #000 padded mailer with priority label and sealed with packing tape. If the shipment was larger denom, multi coins or sets it graduated up to a priorty box, still sealed all the way around with clear packing tape. Mailed hundred of packages this way over many years and never lost a single one.
Lol. No damage to the machine. The skid marks are from the rubber rollers that move the envelope along. The hole in the envelope is where the wrench shot out. There is a steel plate at that end of the machine that all the stuff in envelopes that shouldn’t be there hits. It probably ruined the 200 plus envelopes in the machine but they are still delivered. Just more skid marks and some of them look like an accordion. Lol
What gets me is none of the medals were missing, even though one end of the padded envelope was ripped all the way open and some of the documents inside were partially exposed. Also in the envelope was an updated DD214 to reflect also all the medals I had earned including the ones I missed getting since I got out before their issuance.
when i sell i state that i'm not accountable for mail issues once it's in USPS hands i have no control over whatever happens after that only had one package go missing and cause it was not scanned by the mail carrier
You can say this but it doesn't protect you. EBay will still rule against you and the buyer can still leave you negative feedback. It's frustrating. I sold a coin a few months ago and the person was buying it as a gift for a friend who was visiting on a certain date. It was like 11 days before the friend was coming, so it should be enough time. For whatever reason that was the one order that USPS took its sweet time with and it didn't arrive on time and the buyer left me neutral feedback even though he said in private communication that he understood that the shipping delay wasn't my fault. I had tracking showing when it was mailed and where it was in the system, but when people aren't happy they're going to take it out on you anyway.
The real problem is that every couple of months, they change routes. We've taken their mail to their home and they take our mail to our house. That got old quickly. We tried using a black magic marker and wrote on the mail "Not our Mail". Another problem is that the other person, take their time in giving us our mail. One package (a coin) sat in their mailbox for 2 weeks. The USPS said it had been delivered. I notified ebay and the seller, that I never got the package. Both said "have patience". I tried to contact the person that had my mail delivered to them. They had gone on a cruise and had the post office hold the mail. I tried to get the post office to see if my package was there, but they wouldn't even looked. Two weeks later, the package was on my front porch with a note on it saying "Sorry, we were on a cruise."
NEWS FLASH The coin being mailed to me, finally showed up, but eBay had already declared it missing and refunded my money, taking it out of the sellers account. I contacted eBay to set the record straight, and lets just say that none of my medication helped by frustration levels. After getting a supervisor, that spoke a LITTLE better English, I got my point across and hopefully the seller will get paid. I left the seller a positive review and now that I have his address, told him if eBay didn't make things right, just to let me know and I'd mail him the money directly. As far as I know, @lordmarcovan's coins are still missing and I will be following up on those.
Yes… we had flood insurance for the 2016 flood! For any flood or home disaster it’s good to have photos of contents on phone or camera chip. It’s crazy.
Well, it finally happened to me. I've watched programs that show packages left on the porch. I thought, that won't happen to me because I live in a nice neighborhood. My wife and I have two homes. One in the country and the other in the city. I've bought many packages from the U.S. Mint. I usually have packages sent to the Post Office in our "country home". However, I tried to make a purchase from the mint, but it was denied because I wanted to have the package delivered to our country home address which is different than the city address.. I never had this happen before. It was the 2023 S Limited Edition Silver Proof Set. My home insurance nor the Post Office provided any liability. Soooo, I order another one to be delivered to the Post Office for my country home. I just had an epiphany. They still may not deliver it.
This can happen anywhere ! so you have to do what you can to minimize the problem, one of the ways I do this is to give the mailman the code to my gate at the front door, he simply inputs the code and when the door is shut it automatically locks so the would be pirate is thwarted !
Not a coin story but I recently found the perfect Christmas gift for my wife. It was shipped from some place called Red Lion Pennsylvania. Traveled all the way to Indiana over a 7 day period. Next I knew tracking said it was suppose to be in Port New York. 5 days after that it made it to Saint Paul Minnesota (So close!) but then took a jaunt to Denver Colorado. 6 days after that it arrived our front porch. I don't know if I will tell my wife the trip her dolly took! P.S. To make this coin related their is an 1860-O PCGS 45 Seated Quarter under the tree for me. James
As you know, the Mint will send notices about the purchase, progress of delivery, and then the date the delivery made. I was checking about the process of the delivery yesterday. I had received an email from the Mint the delivery was made at 11:37 on December 6. i rushed to our home in town to pick it up. As I mention, I got to town about 6:30 that night to pick the package up. When I got there, no package. Today, my wife went to town and guess what was on the porch? You guessed it. The package. Although I'm glad to get the package, I made 2 40 mile round trips to get the package.
Red Lion, Pennsylvania is just 10 miles from where I live. Glad you got the package before Christmas.
No kidding collecting nut? I had never heard of it. Maybe you have whole herds of Victorian dolls with hand made Irish lace dresses around there. Lol James
