Got something super cool in my change this morning at the grocery store. Same coin just slight difference in lighting.

The "W" on the obverse is Adolph Weiman's initials. And the die chip is actually an "A" that's merged with the "W". The mintmark is located on the reverse towards the bottom left of the branch.

At the current price of silver that's about a 1700% return on your investment!

Wow, coingrats. I have never gotten a Merc in circulation.

I bet they thought that it was a foreign coin and was just passing it off to me as a dime. They do it with Canadian pennies and quarters quite often. This time it worked in my favor.

And, not in bad shape for it's age and circulation. Great find.

Ooops! Sorry about that. I was just excited for the 1944. I look at too many Lincoln’s with the mint in front. Thank you!

In the pix you can see something that looks a lot like rust, which it probably is. Any way of removing that without damaging the coin?

The black material on the obverse is likely silver oxide. Hydrogen peroxide can be used to reduce the effects, although this example is rather intense. Jim
