Posting this for the experts here, I see this damaged 1889 CC being sold currently, but what draws my attention is under the second 8, looks like it's been cleaned or some sort of repair there. in some of the angles it looks like the repair extends to the 8? Like some sort of soder or something? It could just be coincidental damage or weird toning, but I was hoping to get more expert eyes on this piece? https://www.ebay.com/itm/145044804311?
Its hard to tell exactly whats going on there with out a more detailed pics of the area, but if you were considering purchase I would stay clear of this particular coin.
I suspect it was bad rip bump that has worn down, same at 8 o'clock. I don't have an answer for unusual looking 8. I'd pass also.
I bought a coin on ebay that specified that they did not accept returns. I didn't see it until I had already committed myself to the deal. I don't know why someone would specify that they did not accept returns. Anyway, everthing went the way it should have gone. I hadn't bought from ebay for quite a while, so I wasn't looking for anything kinky. Any particular reason someone would advertise something for sale and after the sale went through find out they didn't accept any returns.
89 CC's are not rare by any means. There's plenty out there that already slabbed. No sense in taking a chance.
