It’s been a super long time since I’ve made a post on here, and I would just like to add that this question is for my husband, not me! Because I am a 100% PRO at all this stuff now! Lol! But he is learning and wants to know what is up with this coin? What is all the stuff on the front and back?! I gave him my opinion, but I don’t think he believes me! So, we want to ask you GENIUSES- what’s going on with this wheat penny? And as always, THANK YOU in advance for all your input!
Based on the pictures I'd say the coin was in a album glued on the reverse (damaged, residue)and was removed at some point leaving all the gunk leftovers.Since the obverse is so nice and bright compared to the reverse being dark and dual from exposure, still a decent looking Wheatie.
It was glued or pasted into a book at some point during its long life. That is glue residue you see on the reverse.
Why YES! Yes I do! That is EXACTLY what I said! (Not at all what I said!) Thank you! What is all the dark spotting on the obverse though?
That book was probably opened and closed a thousand times.... The brown spots are the high spots, or the point where the old cent made contact with the opposite page when it was opened and closed repeatedly.
I honestly would never have even thought that! I told my husband that I thought the obverse was covered with carbon spots, and I did tell him that “something” was on the reverse!! So I was halfway correct!!! Thank you again!
I think the cent you posted is from a joke type of birthday card that says something about giving a bit of gold. The reverse was glued to the card while the obverse was painted gold. One little spot of paint got on the reverse. The coin was possibly returned to circulation for a little while which wore the paint off the high spot of the obverse design.
Tell hubby we here at CoinTalk back you up on your comments. The coin has some type of glue residue on the reverse, which a good long soak in distilled water, or even acetone, should remove, and the obverse has discolored wear marks on the high devices. If you want to be mean, tell hubby that he needs to put the coin in his mouth and let his acidic saliva clean the coins. LOL <Just joking. Please don't do that.>
Someone told me as a kid that if I put a cent in my mouth and went to the nurse for a temperature check that I would show having a fever and be sent home….. It didn’t work. The only way hing that had a fever was my backside when the school told my mom.
As ALWAYS, your knowledge and advice are inspiring!! And if you only knew the tricks I play on my 5th child, AKA “hubby”- I’m certain your mind would be blown! It would be like all the fun I have with my sister X 100! I know I’m always entertained atleast!!
Now how many comments did you read before you posted??!!Lol!! Glad to see some of my fav coin peeps are still here so I can bug you all with all my $1,000,000 coins I find!
I didn’t read any comments. I don’t always have time to read all of the comments. One look at your coin and I was replying. I take it others said the same.
