Help With This 1973 D Lincoln Cent, Please!

    Planchets are never clipped. They are incomplete.
    A ragged 'clip' would be from the edge of a torn are the sheet the planchet was punched from.

    See this diagram below. Grey areas are where the planchets are taken from. To close to the previously punched planchets.

    The Cent in question is definitely a Fissure.

    I basically forgot about that one the only one I remembered was a ragged clip and I didn't think there was anything else similar.

    A ragged fissure. These open up in the coin metal strip from tensile forces that build during rolling out of the strip.

    I would think that such a "space" in the planchette there would be more of a metal flow during the strike ( which appears almost normal) or if the material just broke loose, some of it would have been pressed into the remainder, but never ran into one of these. Jim
