I thought of starting this thread some time ago, but am newly motivated by those of you who posted your fun food pics in the 'Picture the Poster' thread. I'm of course taking my cue here from Steve's 'Favorite Tune and Favorite Coin' thread, but also TIF's 'Fancy Date with Antoninus Pius' pics (way to spring for that Subway meal, TIF ). There's not likely to be much in the way of scholarly numismatic meat to the posts here, but I'm sure we'll be seeing lots of mouth-watering actual meat. Naturally, veg is welcome too. My hope is that the posts here will inspire some good eating, good coining, and general good cheer all around. Post on, friends!
Here's a meal that the wife and I enjoyed at one of our neighbourhood Indian restaurants recently. The dish is quite appropriately called, coin prata . It is also quite delicious! As for the coin, what better way to start off some food-related festivities than with my favorite trio of party goddesses, the Graces... COMMODUS AE25 7.69g, 25mm MOESIA INFERIOR, Marcianopolis, circa 177 - 192 AD Hristova & Jekov 6.10.26.4 (this coin illustrated); RPC IV online 4319; Varbanov 702 corr. (direction of heads). Great idea! Two of my favorite things: coins and food . I'm tied up right now but will have some contributions later today.
Vegetarians look away. The herdwick sheep were thought to have been introduced by the Vikings. They were certainly around when the Romans were here. They taste different from commercially produced lamb. I don't have any coins with sheep on but here is a goat.
Cool idea for a fun thread @zumbly !! I Use to have a 'cast iron stomach' and LOVED to try (and enjoy) just about everything but.....Well, I suppose my favorite is 'Italian'---nothing like the old Roman fare LOL---and I'd list LASAGNA, with a coin of Ceres and a 'bovine' ....which I hope I can post a bit later.
How about roasted pork stuffed with "Moorish rice" (arroz moro)? I had these 5 little piggies made to order for my family's New Year Party this past new year's day. (Lots of guests) I make no apologies for liking tasty animals, though I respect those who prefer grasses, fruits, and plants. This is probably as close to genuine rural/countryside Cuban food as you ca get. Yes, the Moorish rice really is cooked inside the pig while the pig is being roasted. Let me tell you, the end result is mouthwatering. And oh yeah, my top two favorite coins. I honestly can't decide between these two...probably a tie for me as I love them both tremendously for different reasons.
Hmmm... I haven't had lasagna in awhile. I guess if I end up putting on weight because of this thread I'll only have myself to blame.
Never had this Canadian concoction before, but it looks delicious. I may have to try it here for Thanksgiving this year. I'm a huge fan of bacon.
Nice thread Z. I will post two related items. Look at the pictures first and and see if you figured out the connection. Cast Bronze teruncius; Luceria, Northern Apulia, 217 - 212 BC Sunburst of 6 rays / Dolphin above 3 dots & below L Vecchi ICC #347 Pieces of cast bronze bars. German Chocolate cake, half iced (my wife is not a fan of icing). Pictured behind is the Pillsbury icing lid, aka my small coin backdrop. I have struggled taking pictures that meet the standards of this group. I tried several camera holders (not Doug's yet, but close), backgrounds and lights. The best background was the blue icing lid. My wife gave me a new camera for my birthday to replace the one I dropped taking pictures of a Texas Money exhibit in Galveston, TX. It will take a few days to learn the new one.
You bought the teruncius to match your tiling? Are these pics taken with your new camera? They look good to me.
I LIKE the blue lid background. Cleans up easily, nice contrast to the AE. But, hmmm... if that were my cake... that icing would be 3/4 of it... Generally, my pieces tend to be a bit larger.
These are not my new camera. When I bought the new one, I used the same test as the previous one. I wanted a camera that could take coin pictures and pictures on birds, in focus, in a tree across the yard. My test coin was a Jefferson nickel. If the camera could not produce 7 steps, it did not pass the test. Both passed.
My Favourite is the Indonesian rice table with lots of Sate Babi / Ajam / Kambing (bottum in the pic) Favourite coin, My latest buy a silver Pillar dollar:
