Here is an unusual 1993 Lincoln cent I found in a roll. Attention at Lincoln's beard and suit. On the reverse between the last two columns on the far right. Nice toning too!
Just wondering, would zinc rot take a chunk out of Lincoln's beard and deposit it in a blob a little lower and to the right? The same effect on his suit. No chunks missing on the reverse but a large cud between pillars. No obvious signs of different coloration. Do you have any pics as an example of similar zinc rot? Thanks!
Those are all separate zinc rot locations. Every one is different so good luck finding another example just like yours.
In the years that I have gone metal detecting I have found several hundred.. The toning is due to environmental damage
That's some ugly coins - wonder if the Government/US Mint did any research/testing on this copper plated zinc cent, or did they just run with the Idea after looking at the cost savings? And I wonder how the replacement cost of these crap coins out weighs the cost of minting a copper coin that pretty much lasts a lifetime??
Personally, I think they should change the name of these coins from Lincoln Cents to Crud Cents. FYI, Tim! A cud is a break on the rim that extends into the field. (NOTE: There are some error collectors who believe that a cud does not have to extend into the field. They are entitled to their opinion. In the case of your coin, the area along the column on the reverse is called a die break. Chris
I couldn't tell from the pics posted. OP - take a bunch of pics but then go though them and delete the crap and only display your good ones, then instead of thumbnail click Full Size. It helps to see what you are asking about - AND point us to the areas you want info on! Just trying to help, not being a DH
Sorry guys, I only have a crappy phone cam. You can click the thumbnails to make the picture bigger and if you have a touch screen you can make it even bigger! TaDa!
