I spent more in the past few days than I have in a LONG time. Don't tell my wife. I am about to head out of town, so do not have time for great pics or cropping... but here they are!
Hummm...is that the reverse of the off center? If so, it's incorrectly attributed, it would be a MAD and not an OC.
That reverse is from another coin. Notice the toner is in a pronged holder and the OC is in a non-pronged holder.
and one is a reverse of the quarter eagle, Liberty type. the other an Indian head And I didn't even bother to note the different type holders.
Always remember trust your gut, as far as telling your wife, look at it this way, your preparing for hers and your your future. If she should ever find out, gold/silver/platinum etc are never going to go bad like a can of tuna. Hope this was helpful, a coin in the mail I wouldn't complain, just joking, from what I saw very nice. Peace.
If you have some other toned gold you need to sell to make up for it you know who to send a message too =)
Your statements are not necessarily accurate. While difficult to tell in the old style holder, if any of the design of the coin is missing from either side (stars, legend, for example), it is technically an off-center, and not a MAD. I suggest that, if the OP decides to keep the coin, he get it re-holdered in a true-view to remove any doubt when he later sells it.
Come on guys, those are clearly two different coins. There shouldn't be any criticism or discussion of NGC and whether or not it is and off center strike based on the reverse of a different coin that is an entirely different style and design from the Indian in the first picture.
