Is Rainbow/Gold toning for silver worth grading?

    Hello,

From what I can tell silver coins with rainbow and or gold toning tend to sell for more or at least the asking price is usually pretty high. I have two 1990 walking liberty silver dollars that were inherited, and they both have some gold and rainbow toning. I can't guarantee that they got that way naturally and I'm no expert hoping to get some suggestions/info. I know not to try any cleaning unless you find it buried underground. I thought about pcgs/ngc, would it be worth it to try grading either of these? Thanks!

The obverse of the matte-looking coin sure looks like it's been rubbed with steel wool or something.

As for grading and price, for these sorts of coins - no. If it was something old and rare, like a harder to find Morgan, then the toning would bring a premium. Unless you have an MS69 or MS70, ASEs are straight bullion for the most part.

    Both have been harshly cleaned.

Thanks for the info! I had a feeling they weren't old enough and noticed the scratches that definitely look like steel wool. They are cool looking and will be held on to. What about this 1914 year 3 china fatman that is in a sealed case and I assume is uncirculated?

Probably better to ask in the World Coin section. Those are heavily counterfeited and you want to make sure yours is legit first.

I have read about fake fatmans and so many variations. I'll try there, thanks very much for your expertise!
