Can anyone to identify this coin??is that German States COLOGNE 2 Thaler?? Is valuable-rare coin to send it for certfication in pcgs?? size 40.5mm and weight 29.0gr thank you!!
Agreed about Cologne (Free City) but I think that is a Taler, not a double. See the diameters here for example: http://www.coingallery.de/Koeln/b_1547.htm https://www.cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=247267 A Doppeltaler would usually be larger and heavier. 46 mm and 56 g or so ... Christian
NGC lists it for $150 in VG, then $600 in VF. For whatever that's worth. Not sure how to value yours with the reverse damage, somewhere in the middle, probably closer to the lower figure. My opinion, not really worth slabbing except to ensure authenticity. Cool coin, the german states made some neat coinage.
NGC is #1 when it comes to grading German coins. Their price guide for world coins is new though, so I doubt the prices are always close to reality.
