Is this zinc 1987 penny a possible start of a cud

    If it isn't a gas bubble ( some people use heat) as a first guess then perhaps a cud. If pliers easily squeezes it flat (bubble) , if not than the die used had a chip to make a cud.

    IMO, Jim ( But I am still doing taxes and ready to fall into sleep.

    Have you done the toothpick test? It looks incused in many of the photos, which would make it PMD. We need to know if it is raised or incused to determine what's going on.

    The toothpick test never heard that one before but I would image it is is poking it with a toothpick lol.

    I did the toothpick test and it nothing to the spot, not sure what that means now.

    It looks like a plating blister to me.

    It is just a way of determining if the object in question is raised or incused without damaging the surface. Having that information makes a big difference in how members answer some questions.
