I added two more of these to my collection and it was delivered on Saturday. Only one left to go but it’s a hard one to find.
This is a 1943-D Jefferson War Nickel. It’s graded by PCGS as a MS-66 with Full Steps. It contains the following:
    56% Copper
    35% Silver an
    9% Manganese
The nickel was a critical war material so from 1942 to 1945 all nickels contain silver. In 1942 there are two varieties, Type 1 with Nickel and Type 2 with silver. This date had a total mintage of 15,294,000 which is the lowest mintage of War Nickels.

Nice coin. Nice write up. Thanks for the post.

I'm sure it's just the photo, but it looks like they were generous with the FS designation.

The coin is FS in hand but the photos and the slab are to be desired. Alas, it’s the best I can do.

PCGS always is lenient with FS.

Thank you so much for sharing your War Nickel. I have some, but the highest grade is MS65. Maybe one day, hummmm.... Any idea how much one would cost today? Wait a minute... I just looked at my inventory of Wartime Silver Alloy Nickels,
    1942 P/ D / Sx2 all graded by NGC MS 66.
    1943 P/ D / S ( 1 each) NGC P = MS65
    1944 P/ D / S (all are MS66) P / D / S
    1945 P/ D / S (P=1/MS 66, D = 1 - MS 65, S = 1
I don't look at my inventory everday like some of you rascals. I wish I had the time, but my wife always has a list of things she wants me to do.
I like to collect the odd releases. Then I take them home and break them down on what is wrong with them, and was I screwed on the price.
I am not like a bunch of coin collectors. Many go to the bank everyday to check on getting several rolls of coins to look at, then, I check out the coin machines for coins that are rejects. That kind of activity will roll you out. I've got 3 daughters the want all my time, then quarters and halves. I don't collect many dollar coins, I will leave that up to you folks that want to see what's out there.
Anyway, I like spending time with my wife, 4 dogs, and my cat. We have 4 cars, 2 homes, and three "children" (1 boy/man, and 2 girls that come to me for money at least a few times a year. I can't remember how many grandchildren are out there. I live in North Carolina and they live in Georgia. My son just got married and I'm looking forward to being a great-grandfather at 75. I can't travel due to an injury I sustained when a truck hit me and threw me down a ravine. I've had 5 back surgeries and 2 knee surgeries. I try not to let theat stop me from having fun. My oldest granddaughter is now interested in coin collecting. Anyway, I have my hands full and looking down gullies and other places is fun.
Keep the faith! Your guys are doing great!

Yes indeed. I still have another to post later and 1 more to have them all in this grade with FS on every label.
