I recently started going through my half dollar rolls and I've found a good amount of NIFCs, my question is, do they really hold any value? Is there a demand for them or am I better off just throwing them back in on my hunt for silver? What are y 'all's opinions?
Silver and Errors! That's all I look for. Maybe someone has a better answer? It's still early. Oh, P.S. Show us some Pics? We like that.
Which ones are you finding? As for value (something my father would tell me) 'it'll always be worth 50 cents'.
I totally agree with your dad. My issue is, will today's $.50 be worth at least the same $.50 next week, next month, next year? I've become jaded recently in putting aside cash.
Thanks, I had the same question. Now I need a bit more explanation. Are these NIFC's you're asking about specifically US Government issues or any bullion pieces.
Not Issued For Circulation. Usually used in terms of half dollars after 2002, or pretty much most of the new $1 coins. But no, there is no premium. They make millions of them due to congressional decree. You can buy them from the mint, or just get lucky with rolls. Back in 2020 or so, there were a lot of 2020 Kennedy halves that were released due to the 'coin shortage'.
Some of the recent 50 cent pieces had a mint run of 2 million or so, yet in comparison to the value of the W Quarters, also 2 million, very little appreciation of value. I keep them for tips because they are shiny and folks like them.
