Good for you. Many are just blind to this realization and may end up selling these as Civil War Tokens. And there will always be buyers for them. Keep your collection free of skepticism and you will build a high quality collection. Have you ever thought of joining our society? We have the distinguished David Q. Bowers as a past President and always attends our meetings. He is easily approachable and has sponsored many new members by contributing to their dues as a first year member.
For just $18.00 per year: There are private auctions within the membership, (Honest prices I might add). No day dreamers asking outrageous prices, scammers or flippers. Many unseen tokens that are authentic and scarce, and several publications which are updates about new tokens or re-evaluations of existing. You avoid the brainless chatter often found about eBay. Besides the society officers and board of governors we have: Publicity, Publishers, Auction Manager, Legal Council, Verification, Librarian, Computer Liaison, Book Manager and Internet Coordinator. Certainly a wealth of information and not a fly by night gathering. You ask; you get a response.
Wow its only $18 a year to join. I have used eBay a few times, but only buy from folks such as Steve Hayden ect
I look at it as money well spent. I have caught myself considering an item and not being aware of the true possibilities. I save tokens, classic U.S.coinage, limited world currency, large sized paper currency, exonumia along with specialized small sized currency. At 74 years of age, I have 53 years of experience. I am also an active seller. I believe you have to sit on both sides of the table to correctly judge values and understand outcomes.
Ok that is a political campaign token with a clipped planchet which many tokens from the era were crudely made and many have clipped edges as yours.. I have a similar token with the ok reverse but mine has a different Abraham bust on the front.. Mine has no clip. very nice and seldom seen. Some would say the clip makes it less desirable but others wouldn't mind the clip at all . As it was minted that way
I couldn't agree more. I've been collecting for a Few years and still have most of my U.S coin collection. I try to learn as much as possible.
Ericred: It's like a Chinese counter stamp on a Trade dollar. Some people like them, some people don't. There is a market for both.
I have a home for it. I like these clipped and all . They are all history pieces in my eyes. I gave up collecting u.s coins , I prefer these
