Miss Liberty and something that symbolizes a renewal of individual responsibility . . . badly needed in these times.
How about a coin with a Doubled Die on the date and lettering and a Repunched Mint Mark all done on purpose so collectors can finally have one of there own!
I agree. I would go as far as phasing out using presidents images on all coinage. I like symbols that represent our country.
I would go with a modern image of Lady Liberty on some of our coins. A really hot looking, pretty lady. Some with good taste that the public would like. I'm lost with what to do with the Cent. Honest Abe just looks right for the Cent.
heck......given the state of the union today, I think a re-issue of the Fugio Cent motif would be good!
HIGHER FACE VALUES. The time spent handling cents costs more than their face value. Nickels and dimes are marginal. Ditch the $1 bill, issue small change with face values of $1, $5, $10, maybe $20. (Don't make a $1 coin quite as small as the gold dollar, but the half-eagle and eagle should be good.)
For the obverse the design originally intended before they switchd to SBA. https://www.cointalk.com/attachments/chris_ana_1969smbronze_ms67_o3r3-jpg.1028564/ And for the reverse a Defiant Eagle.
Definitely Lady Liberty! And done in an older style fashion so that when you look at the coin it screams Liberty, justice and freedom. She looks strong but attractive.
Exactly! They'll stay in circulation for longer as well, reducing the need to reprint bills and hopefully also reduce inflation. Maybe we could even have actual copper coins again. Ideally we'd go back to the gold standard, but fiat seems to be the only thing the fed is interested in. As for design, I'll echo the responses of everyone else here: Lady Liberty, and I'd also add other symbols rather than actual people. I think a revival of classic coin designs would be nice, but the artists of today could definitely make modern classics. The union shield I also really like, and if I could choose I would add some Roman-esque design elements because I really like Rome. I think Lady Liberty is like today's Roma aside from the fact that Liberty isn't a deity. Taking inspiration from the Roma coin issues would be something I'd love to see. Heck, it's a reach, but maybe some other classic deities such as Victory and such. Of course, it wouldn't be like the Roman state-sponsored religion, but more of a personification of these ideas that make us American.
I saw a picture of the Lady Liberty that was going to be what became the Susan B. Anthony Dollar. This was due to our politicians getting involved. If I remember correctly it was quite good with a more modern look. But, if not that one a modern Lady Liberty.
