I hate it when people use sniping software like that. Many Auctions prohibit the use of sniping software but they seem to be rather bad at enforcing it

I don't know enough to say why two people with more money than concern for the price do anything. The remnants of the symbol look a little like my Beroea but, for that price, I'd like to think it was better than that.

I'd be glad I didn't win it. If you knew what it was, you might be in a better position to say you wanted it enough to bid higher. Wait and see if it appears on the resale market anytime soon.

    PHOENICIA, Byblus or Tyre?

Surprised it went for that much.

WOW!! 738 Euro??? It must be super scarce or unpublished....that 'mintmark' control is unknown to me.....wreath? horned helmet??? It must be the missing exergue in someones collection. The style seems reminiscent of Berytus....

Doug just posted and I believe he is probably right....

What Doug posted is not the same, that was my thought also, it looks more like a scarabee or something like that, it is also not a crab from Gabala.
Also the style of the portrait looks Tyre...but can also Be Jerusalem....well I thought maybe I have a bargain, but not the winner has one feedback also strange and the second one..4500...so...pufff all a more mistery for me

Was this on eBay? I'm not an eBay expert but I've heard other people mention shill bidding, which is apparently more likely when one or more of the exuberant bidders has a low feedback rating.

Why? What difference does it make to you, another bidder, if I bid my highest bid through a sniping service? I could bid my highest during the auction and drive the auction price up much to the joy of the seller. I use a sniping service whenever and wherever I can.

It makes no difference, honestly. I'm just being a sore bidder after losing out on the last 3 CNG auctions at the last second on snipe bids that came out of nowhere. Oh well, at least I had better luck at Agora Auctions, so none of you snipers head over there. ;)

I never pre-bid. I drop the bomb in the last 3 seconds and always win. Uh Oh!

I agree on this. I feel sniping software just automatically places your highest bid, and will submit bidding until your highest bid is exhausted. No different than if you were actually sitting there physically bidding. In essence, Sixbid, Biddr, auction software is pretty much the same. I enjoy reviewing an item, then plugging in the ultimate bid I FEEL that I could spend... then if I win, wonderful. If I lose, then the best bidder / market price was exchanged. Laissez faire market dynamics in motion... May the best bid win!

I feel the same. The only reason I use a sniping tool is that it gives me more control of my bids. Spend too much on another auction site? I better go cancel some Ebay bids. I wish every venue gave you the ability to set up your max bid at leisure but allow you to cancel the bid up until the last moment.
