Correct on the crossover, if sent only to cross at same grade, if they disagree it’s returned in the holder.
It’d be fun in those instances to offer a crossover at same grade, then if it crosses, do a regrade that won’t go lower than the crossed grade, but could go higher.
    Is that a thing?

Some people seem to have more money to play with grading services than to buy coins with....

If you send a coin to cross at the same grade and the graders feel it deserves a higher grade, they'll do it. I once sent a NGC-graded MS64 2-cent piece to PCGS, and it came back crossed with a grade of MS64+. :)

Technically + is an embelishment not a higher grade.

PCGS defines it as a grade.

Not only is it a grade, it gets more points in the registry than the same number without a plus. Cal

But if coin tarnished badly after decades in holder what then lol. I see 66 coins all the time that have black splotchy toning and don’t believe it was there when it graded. What would u tell someone with one:
    A. Throw it back in the roll (laughter).
    B. They should have an expiration date on the grade lol. With that haze and green pvc Looks destined for the junk box.
    C. Send it into the conservation dept.

^ D. I would tell them the grade rent just went up, a lot.

    E. I would tell them the next time they dip a coin they might try rinsing it off before sending it in.

I would tell them 2 things.
First, rinse the coin very good for a few minutes after dipping it. And second, the black splotches are nasty looking but they don’t affect the grade of the coin. The wear is the same but it has lost eye appeal.
