This is one of the most common issuers, and can be difficult to correctly identify, even with the token in hand. Some are quite rare, but most are common. Yours looks to be in good shape.

Thank you. I had someone look at it before and was told if it is brass there are only 2 to 4 known to exist.. I have about 50 of these tokens just have no clue as to their worth.

When I get home I'll look it up for you. I looked closer and it's not the issuer I thought it was. More to come!

You have the internet / Google. That's a good starting place.

Type the text on the tokens into Google along with the dates, and you'll almost certainly find some reference to sold examples from eBay or other auction venues.

I have tried, but there are a few that I can't find another example of. And several more that I haven't seen sold. Some common ones were easy , but still having trouble finding the rest

For the truly scarce / rare stuff, you're not going to find some magical guide to give you a price/value. The prices of this kind of material can vary wildly from one auction to the next depending on the interest.

Are you thinking of selling, or why do you need to know values? If so, Steve Hayden would be a good starting place to get some guesses on value, and you could even consign to him I believe. If you're just "curious" as to value or need rough estimates for insurance purposes, then I'd probably just slap a per token estimate on them and take pictures for your records.

Actually I was just curious of the value. I am not going to part with them. Haha. I love them and have given up my U.S coin collecting to pursue these. I guess value is not that important I just am trying to learn all I can

Well, I contend you can find most if not all of them by doing an internet search. Even the very rare ones are usually there to give you a rough idea.

As for value, I presume you purchased these tokens? If so, what you paid for them is a good starting place...assuming you kept records.

Yes I purchased them , but also traded for many. It seems to me that many people are not familiar with civil war tokens. I plan on going to Fort defiance here in TN in hopes of learning more about them

I'm a member of the Civil War Token Society and attend all the annual meetings. I save only patriotic tokens but you might try Dave Snider, our verification officer, at fdsnide@gmail.com When I see this many in high grade and in brass, I think re-strikes or private mint reproductions. Give him a try, however. I'm not involved, nor collect, store cards and plead ignorant to their authenticity and value.

Ok awesome thanks. They are high grade and I've been collecting them for a few years now. I am positive that they are authentic. I usually try to get these in as high a grade as possible. Has taken a lot of time to collect them that way but I wanted only very nice examples. I also have patriotic tokens as well. Any reason you only collect patriotics

Many store cards are listed by George and Melvin Fuld as issues of the Civil War. This is true but many are not dated to the years. You can find them originally struck as Hard Times Tokens, several years before the war. Then you get into arguments about whether they are truly Civil War Tokens. It's happened right here on CT. A purest will not accept these as Civil War tokens. Patriots don't have the dual personality.

Ok I see what you mean. I have been very careful to only go after storecards that are listed in the fuld books. I know exactly what you mean.I have a non contemporary cwt that was listed as a north Carolina cwt but has recently been re attributed as a non contemporary... There's no Real worry with collecting store cards if you go by the fuld books . I use the 3rd edition
