Well, retirement will happen soon enough. Not quite sure these 'highly circulated, high mintage, harshly cleaned, highly polished' coins will increase my retirement funds. On the other hand, I am sure. They won't.
Those are pretty neat, Russ. I especially like the buffalo nickel one! The IHC one is pleasing to me as well.
I have a few of the same frames of coins. They are not enough to retire on but sure are nice to have and enjoy. Thanks for sharing part of your retirement fund @masterswimmer. Good luck!
I do really like these. I notice in two one side is the obverse and the other side is the reverse, the other two is obverse only. I wonder what the rationale for doing was? Do you have any idea when the frames were made?
I thought the exact same thing. Not sure what the motivating factor was in the display creators mind. As far as the frames 'birthdate', I'd venture a guess it was sometime in the 60's or 70's.
Or my home office.... I would venture a guess that the reversed coins were dateless? I definitely like the subject matter.
You certainly could retire on these -- but I don't think they'd be nearly as comfortable as whatever mattress you've been retiring on each night.
The two showing both sides are the ones where the theme of the text vaguely matches the coin design. For the other two... I mean, what the heck does the Mercury dime have to do with the Pony Express? They're both fast?
The coins don't look like they have polished in the photos, but most of the coins they put into these things have been shined up. I guess laymen find that attractive, but it makes my skin crawl.
