My Metal Detecting facts by the numbers - I have 4 Metal Detectors. I have found the most silver coins in the past 6 years with 2021 being my best year with a total of 116 finds. This year I have detected 20 silvers. My average detecting hunt lasts 6 hours. I have a Instagram page you can visit - bunnyfoofoo_dirtydigginnuts And YouTube
Wow!! I only have two silvers, both found in 2021. So far this year I've been out a few times but nothing spectacular. Just clad. I feel like I've been having trouble deciphering which deeper items are good signals vs. being either junk, or nothing.
Many are as deep as 8 - 10 inches. A few have been 1 inch deep and even surface finds. Eyeballed silver
I haven't gotten out yet. Snow recently melted, temps in the 30's mostly so ground frozen. Snow and rain, on and off every other day. BLAH!
That's how I felt as a youngster visiting banks, grocery stores and other coin rich venues. Searching is a big part of the collecting adventure.
This is the 1917 D mercury, my first silver. As noted in the image it was found on my side lawn at home. My house was built in 1952 so I wonder when this coin was dropped.... and how a 1917 D dime made its way to Auburn, Maine in the era before commercial aviation! First MD silver - 1917 D 10c by Evan Saltis posted Mar 21, 2023 at 10:16 PM No photos of the Roosevelt, but I believe it was from the late 1940's. Finally, the late 1830s large cent I found in Bangor, Maine across the street from an old church! First pre-1900, Bangor, Oct 10. 2021 by Evan Saltis posted Oct 10, 2021 at 3:57 PM
Our house was built in 2006 but I guess there's still a possibility of a buried pirate chest in my yard lol,I'll have to go to the beach more.
Congratulations @paddyman98. My glorious finds are 4 beer cans, numerous tabs, 1 shoe, 1 bike inner-tube with stem, 2 kids metal rings. I did find a dime and three pennies in the school playground, gave them to my granddaughter. It took you 14 years, it took me one summer, duh. Thanks
The other day my wife and I watched your video. Today we looked at all your finds. We both thought they were really great. My wife has often said she would like me to this for the exercise and fun. I have thought about it several times, but I see a problem. I think here in Florida most metal detecting takes place at the beach. We do go to the beach quite often, and we get there usually in the morning around nine or ten depending on which location. By the time we leave it seems about every two hours someone goes by metal detecting. I just don't think there is that much to detect with this many people detecting every day. I guess what I'm doing here is asking for your opinion, and it will be appreciated.
I understand that there are great sites on the West Coast of Florida. The shipwrecked loot washes up there.
@paddyman98 Nice finds!! They really add up over the years I bet! I'm just surprise that you haven't gotten a Large Cent. That would be cool.
Thanks. This thread is only showing my silver coin finds. I have found 3 Large Cents and of course the normal Wheats, Buffalos, Indians, V Nickels and like millions of clad coins and pennies
Like I've always said: Good hobbies are the ones that don't cost money while having fun, but the best hobbies are the ones that provide the potential to make money! Not sure if this is the type of thing that you want to disclose, but if so, what would you say that you have invested in equipment?
