On this penny Liberty and Date look possible. On reverse the ONE and CENT look possible. Keeping my fingers crossed.
@Laurie B …you don’t need to cross your fingers and hope. That’s not how you confirm your suspicions. You GO to Variety Vista or Wexler and compare to what is known. Then you post it and share it with us. By doing it in this sequence you learn what real doubling is, and on the off-chance you think you have discovered a new variety you will have a solid knowledge base to work with.
Thanks I always go to Wexler and I thought I saw something in one of them. I am glad to have everyone and my day will come when I do get one. I appreciate everyone's advice that is how I learn.
The obverse is hindered by overuse of the die which caused movement of the edges of the lettering and other areas to expand so it appears doubled. but it is not an "error" which occurs immediately with the first coin struck, maybe it was the 1,000,000th one. This is the infamous yet very numerous Die Deterioration Doubling which really is not a DD. No extra value. read this : http://varietyvista.com/25 What Are Die Varieties/False Forms of Doubling.htm Your catching things very well, now to know how to eliminate the trash. Jim
Yeah, no, and no, but at least you are learning from these experiences. Take @Spark1951 advice to help "weed out" those worthless doubling ones. Keep going and good luck.
