Just trying to gage the community's perspective on them. I've recently ran into an issue on ebay with someone else maybe seeding their rolls, however, this other ebay seller seems pretty legit and the rolls themselves look good to me with coins having proper toning and such on them. My question is, do you believe that people would genuinely sell uncirculated rolls, or it's all a pipe dream? Also here is this guy's ebay store. His rolls looked good. https://www.ebay.com/usr/tomhugre Appreciate y'alls input!
OBW do they exist? Only in our dreams! I put the odds at 1 tenth of 1 % to be genuine. Your seller all fake! Wouldn't touch them.
There isn't an ice cubes chance in hell I would trust a sale on ebay, Etsy, or any other online source claiming a coin roll is an OBW roll. The naivete of those thinking OBW rolls exist is what fuels the scammers to continue to post their fraudulent coin rolls. If nobody bought them we'd see very quickly how they cease to exist.
Personally, I think when a seller wraps their marketing approach around rolls being original unsearched, it's only a matter of time before they run out of them, and begin stretching the truth to keep going. Therefore, it's important to approach such "opportunities" with skepticism. On the flipside, I have some OBW in my long forgotten collection (not represented by advertised inventory), but they are not for sale. I know others who also have OBW. Are they better date coins? Were they well-stored against environmental damage? Who knows, but I can assert that OBW do exist. I think it's better to consider the source when looking for OBW . . . find them from a dealer who hasn't had them in a number of years, and bought one or a few in an old time collection. I kind of hate to say this, but, if you continue buying them from a seller who seems to find a new batch every few weeks, well . . . I think you are a slow learner.
Sure they exist. I find no reason that this one would be fake: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2851882365...uid=sDh-MXVLRNi&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Exactly, could you save gas money and time standing in front of the teller? I to have some OBW rolls from the late 60's/70's holed away. Bought them from the back as a kid in Arizona. Worth? But they are unsearched. I knew a collector that passed away that had thousands stored. The kids actually moved them to Michigan from Arizona instead of just stopping by the bank. Some even show up at the local coin club meeting auction but you almost have to question those. You would almost have to have a roll in hand and verify...then the chances are low.
Getting boxes of mint fresh coins from banks is a pretty easy thing to do, I wouldn't be overly suspicious of a claim like this. But, when it comes to "unsearched" rolls that all happen to have a VBD or Indian reverse on the end...... that's a completely different story.
How many people have been taken by the VDB end coin scam. I have seen them in roll listings on eBay everyday for years.
Original Bank Wrapped rolls of coins might be found in Estate Sales. Not online, but in person, local, sales. I've made friends of the auctioneers in my area and they notify me when an upcoming auction will have coins in it. Search your area and make contact with auctioneers that would notify you. Might hit it big.
My local mobile auction estate seller sells some of his coins along with other people's stuff. Also has shill bidders in the audience. IF something is a good deal they will be the high bidder and resell later. I knew a person that worked there and they enlightened me as to who the workers were that were bidding in the crowd. After that information I quit going to the auction estate sales. Hard to compete with an auction house that has deep pockets.
I used to search out old collector guitars in a previous life. I cannot tell you the number of times I was put on a lead that went something like…… 1959 Les Paul. Kid put it in his closet when he was shipped off to Nam and his parents never took it out…… Yeah, I chased a few of these and they were always trumped up stories…. I’m sure there are some 59 Les Paul’s in some closets somewhere and I am sure there may be unsearched bank rolled coins out there too. I doubt you will find any legit on EBay though.
I have sold OBW rolls on ebay that I've saved - from year 2003 up until a few years ago. I plan to sell more too, I have a lot left. So I think a distinction needs to be made between older rolls and newer rolls.
Most people say there’s no such thing. But you must really really know from whom you’re buying from. I have a roll of 43 cents. So there is some
