Well, it's nearly midnight here. I will turn into one of the coachmen if I don't hurry to bed. I look forward to seeing your treasures in the morning.
Full legend on the obverse of that Lentulus? That's a pricey one, if it is. I think it's time for the other side.
Great coins. I'm surprised we don't have more "unwrap" pics or videos of all the packages we get. Unboxing videos of iPhones and other crap is popular online. And yes I watch unboxing videos of some things. Loser
Thanks, that is the gem of the group, in my opinion. It is the rare variety with the names beneath the portraits, rather than behind. Silenus has a characteristic die break in the eye that nearly all coins struck from this die share - see Crawford's plate coin and RBW's coin for other examples of this die break. Either the die failed early, or most extant specimens were struck late.
I rarely wander over to the Ancients subforum, but I gotta commend you all for your gentlemenly and scholarly attitudes present in your discussions. So many times the moderns discussions I frequent devolve into train wrecks (I guess those can be pretty entertaining I suppose ). Quite a nice change of pace, and cool coins too!
First of all, Carausius, congrats on the fabulous coins!! I also think your Pansa is the highlight but also the Lentulus, which you got a total deal in IMO! Well played sir. And the coin opening porno, well what can I say. At least I won't have to worry about my browsing history for a change. ROFL!!! Finally, I prefer Motörhead when opening my coins!
Congrats! I can see why you'd be pleased... you've got yourself some standouts from that auction, especially that Pansa. I love the tortoise sextans too.
And here I thought I was the only one. Substitute coffee for Yorkshire tea and the Gladiator soundtrack for Jerry Goldsmith's Masada soundtrack and this is pretty close to my 'coin opening ritual'.
